A billion years is a very long time to solve this issue for the population of the earth.

not really when you think what is required.
first you have to find a place to go, then build a method to go there, then build a civilisation when you get there.
At the moment we can send a handful of people into space at a time and a few tons of material into space with every launch.
If you think of the transport as an ark it will need to be bigger than a modern supertanker weighing hundreds of thousands of tons.
If we can get it to go at the speed of light it is going to take 10 of years at least to get to a new planet if not hundreds, and it is unlikely we will attain the speed of light so it is likely to be thousands of years.
And we are going to need more than one, eggs and baskets spring to mind.
A billion years seems a long time, but hopefully this will concentrate the mind somewhat and some people might see the urgency

Again a billion years is a very long time to fin new sources of power, yes it is a lot of what if's, but we have seen humanity advance vastly in the last 100 years, imagine what can be done in a 1000, let alone 1,000,000,000 years.

we last went to the moon around 40 years ago. Man has not been out of low orbit since.
As far as manned space travel goes we have gone backwards in that time.
Power is not the problem, it is the atmospheric changes that will do for us. and that is likely to start well before the 1billion years limit

Sorry Dean that is bullshit we have gone backwards in technology, there is such a thing as costs to go to the moon or even if there is any need to. The reality is the more we need sources the more we will colonise space, as we will need further resources

Don't we have enough problems to occupy us and concentrate the able minds, at the moment and in the immediate future without a billion years hence?

the 1billion years refers to all life, human life will be dead and gone long before that.
