Excellent use for 3D printers

Is this the plaster cast of the future? Designer uses 3D printing to create tailor-made exoskeleton to help heal broken bones

this seems such an obvious use for 3d printing I am surprised it hasn't been thought of before.
It certainly will remove the itch associated with normal plaster casts and allow the patient, within reason, to enjoy a more normal life including washing or showering.
