I'm so lucky

This morning whilst walking the dog I realised how lucky I was living about 7 miles from central London yet immersed in thousands of acres of woodland.  The golf course where we walk is home to a myriad of flora and fauna, most of the trees are around 100 years old or more, strong English oaks each providing refuge for squirrels.  Beech, Hornbeam, Silver Birch, Hawthorn abound and Gorse bushes take up the lower ranks alongside Holly bushes. 

Foxes, rabbits, water voles, deer, muntjacs inhabit the ground whilst the trees are home to woodpeckers, magpies, rooks, pigeons, green finches, robbins, blue tits, sparrows, thrushes and a unique gathering of bright green parakeets.  Quite a few years back they escaped from a zoo and settled on the golf course, everybody thought that the cold climate would see them diminish - instead they have flourished!  They fly in a group and sound like they should be in a Tarzan film.

Me and the dog get to see this wonderful scene on our walks - its a privilege.

Is that Epping Forest Keith? I used to have a friend who lived right by the edge of it. Lovely walks there. And you're right; when I went out early this morning to feed the horses the dawn sky was pink and grey with the sun just shining through the big larches at the back of me. Then the pheasants appeared along with dozens of little birds, all after some feed. Thought the same as you - we are lucky.

Sounds lovely keith, I saw parakeets in India they are amazing to watch when there a few of them, must be great to see them on a regular basis
