Fox affiliate fires reporter and cameraman who deceptively edited video of police brutality protesters

Fox 45 fired the reporter and cameraman involved with a story that claimed protesters against police brutality were shouting “to kill a cop,” the Baltimore City Paper reports.
“At this rally in Washington, D.C. participants chanted, ‘We won’t stop, we can’t stop, so kill a cop,’” WBFF’s Melinda Roeder said during the original report.
However, the woman in the clip, Tawanda Jones, later came forward with an unedited version of the protest in which she is shouting, “We won’t stop, we can’t stop, ’til killer cops, are in cell blocks.”

The station half-heartedly admitted its error and invited Jones on to speak about her brother, Tyrone Jones, who died in police custody. She complained that the editing was malicious, and that it had tarnished her reputation.
“My community needs the cops. Nobody deserves to be brutally murdered, so that hurt me,” she said.
Fox 45 fired both the reporter, Roeder, and the cameraman, Greg McNair — but news director Mike Tomko and a producer who allegedly expressed dissatisfaction with the piece before it aired were retained.
A source told FTVLive that retaining Tomko while firing the reporter and cameraman was a surprise, given that the story “was found by [Tomko], assigned by him, and ultimately proofed by him.”
Another source told the City Paper that other Fox 45 cameramen are threatening a “sick out,” saying that they “believe Tomko sacrificed two little people to save himself.”
