Is it out of hand now?

The money could be spent on far better things IMHO.

BUT, then again, if the fire brigade are awaiting a shout they may as well rescue pets as they will at least be doing something useful for someone.

Cue- Blackie.

I thought they didn't mind doing this stuff because it was good training for human rescues. As for the money, being a tax payer I don't mind, I'd rather it be used there than some money wasting schemes the government and councils think up. People get themselves into stupid situations where they have to be rescued, they climb things, fall down things, drive too fast, stick their heads in railings, try to climb over spiky railings etc etc the list goes on, we still pay for stupidity - rescuing dumb animals from situations human activity has probably got them into in the first place, farming not fencing securely, wells (dug by people) mining activity (people again) keeping unsuitable pets in unsuitable situations ------------------.
