Tax Rises To Help OUR NHS
Taxes are going to have to rise to pay for the NHS if the UK is to avoid "a decade of misery" in which the old, sick and vulnerable are let down, say experts.
I agree in principle but there are millions upon our island who do not pay taxes so the working man will bear the brunt as usual.
If ya ain't paid into it ya don't get it.
IF EVERYONE here paid 50p per week from wages or benefits into NHS then we may get somewhere.
Having said that my own experiences with OUR NHS nears zero complaints but I know plenty who have been let down.
How you say???

Why not just cut a bit out of the Overseas Aid Fund, although I wouldn't protest at paying a bit more tax for the NHS, although it'll be the poorer working people that will be hit again I suppose. The government could also make sure big companies aren't avoiding too much tax, without frightening them off. I have had no problem with the NHS when I have been in contact with them - rarely thankfully. Although going to various clinics with relatives I see a lot of staff walking around and standing around apparently with no purpose. Do we really need qualified nurses transporting files around outpatient clinics?

Good points Flix.
Where there is a will there is a way Flix, we need someone strong and sensible to sort this one out PDQ IMHO, NOT a politician who will run scared of losing votes and the big money men..
Over the years I could not estimate the amount of money which has been collected for the big C, it begs the question, where does it go to??????????
I am a big Macmillan fan, they are a shining example to all medical help associations, they rely on the general public as do the Air Ambulance.
I am 75 Flix and still pay tax on my income, I get hammered, I am bitter but to get the NHS out of the mire I would pay something extra for a proper sort out.
Talk talk talk, no action.

I'v always wondered where all the money goes that's collected for Cancer research, over the years there must have been millions and millions poured into this bottomless pit yet there's still no cure. Big Drug companies also spend untold millions into trying to find a cure.
Has a cure been found, but some one does not want to end the "gravy train" ?

I suppose it doesn't help that you pay £170,000 or so a year to the chief executive and however much their deputy or other underlings get.
It used to be a committee or at least you didn't hear of there being someone in charge getting a substantial income with charities. A friend just stopped giving to the RSPCA because they found out how much the C.E. was getting. When you think people volunteer to collect, my mother collected for years walking around two villages and out to the farms into her 70's, then you find out someone's making a nice little earner out of it.
I know the drug companies have to invest a lot of money into research but they pay huge sums to their chief executives and there's the shareholders to take care of as ell, few are in it just for the satisfaction of doing some good and maybe getting a Nobel Prize ands some money, its got to be vast sums. If they make cancer successful medicines, surely there is so much of it about they'd make a mint from all the patient using it.

Re: Tax Rises To Help OUR NHS
it appears the 70% who pay little or no tax want to 30% who do to pay more.

Re: Tax Rises To Help OUR NHS
My grandmother and mother in law sent money to a religious group, forget the name, Sisters of something ad Dartmoor ponies.
When I was at school we were TOLD to bring in 1 penny now and again for something, forgot again.
They ring your doorbell, hang around supermarket entrances nowadays and invite you to sign up a direct debit, sod off.
I never give to a wog with a collection box.
Look on the internet and see how much the RSPCA is worth, cash in bank.
Macmillan is still my fav.

I donate things to their shop and money to our local Animal Aid group, who actually do a great job only with volunteers, fostering animals that have been abandoned for whatever reason, the money they make goes to the local vets for treatments, hopefully at a discount.
They recently took a pup born with severe rear leg problems to that supervet bloke to have prosthetic legs fitted, the pup is bounding around now.

Didn't Bob Geldof visit some of the Band Aid projects for wells in Africa fairly recently and found nothing had actually been done? So who had the money?nicko wrote:The Advert that supposedly shows the kids drinking dirty water, if you look closely they are not actually drinking, they just put it to their mouths and pretend !
