I use intelligolf for all my scoreing and ranging uses. It cost me less than £20 and allows me to enter the front middle and back of the green as well as 3 other features on the course. It can measure the length of each shot and keeps records for each club you use and works out handicaps for you. While not as dynamic as a rangefinder it works very well although I suppose the accuracy is only as good as your GPS equipment so around 5 metres, but unless you are a player that can hit that sized target a very good investment. I use it on my Ipaq but they have versions for PC's and mobile phones as well. You can also download the data to the PC and analyse your shots. You can also set up different sorts of side bets with it. also you get access to a database of golf courses around the world which are free to download and you can also upload your own courses. that is something other software often charges for.
If you haven't already got some software to keep score I can fully recommend this. It is on version 10 now and can keep track of 5 ball games.

I also bought some golf mapping software when I first took up the game, but as it took a good two days just to map my local 9 hole course I never used it much, you could include just about anything you liked with that down to individual trees. but you had to put them in yourself. You could get the courses done by the company but they charged about £25 each for them.
It was quite good as it would show you where you hit every ball on a graphic layout of the course but I only ever used it for that one course.

I believe the latest incarnation of intelligolf allows you to input directly from google earth maps, which I have done in the past manually when I have been planning on going to a new course. Doing it manually from google earth put the accuracy out to about 10 meters. I would be interested in seeing how well the feature has been implemented, but there is not real reason for me to upgrade at the moment as I only play when I am back in the UK now which is not very often.
