Man cleared of car park murder is jailed for smuggling heroin in chessboards.

Syed Naveed Shabir, 31, has been locked up for nine years after an undercover operation by the National Crime Agency.
Heroin, with 100 per cent purity, was hidden in the fabric of ten games boards.
It could only be extracted by a solvent process.
The amount imported in a parcel, which also included dried fruit, was 1,639 grams, which had a potential street value of £550,000.
The parcel, from Pakistan, was intercepted in September 2012 by the UK Border Force, who detected heroin when a small part of one of the board games was cut.
It was addressed to a house in Gainsborough Avenue, Coppice, Oldham, to a ‘Mr S Ahmed’. The name was fictitious but the address was real.

Mohammed Badiuzzaman jailed for strangling pregnant wife.

Sabeen Thandi had obtained a non-molestation order against her husband

A man has been sentenced to life in prison for strangling his pregnant wife at her home in east London.

Mohammed Badiuzzaman, 35, was ordered to serve a minimum of 17 years for murdering Sabeen Thandi, 37, Forest Gate, last year.

Badiuzzaman was subject to a non-molestation order at the time of the murder, issued by the county court.

An Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) probe into how police officers handled the case is ongoing.
Marriage pressure
Prosecutor Sarah Plaschkes QC told the court that in November 2012 the defendant, a security guard of no fixed abode, started a relationship with Ms Thandi.

He moved into her home two months later and in April 2013 pressured her into an Islamic marriage, the court heard.

"The defendant was obsessive and controlling," said Ms Plaschkes.

The relationship continued to deteriorate and in June 2013 Ms Thandi obtained non-molestation and occupation orders against him.

On 6 July she allowed him back into her home in Disraeli Road and that night during an argument she was strangled.

At 00.18 BST on 7 July, officers received an abandoned call and found Ms Thandi's body in a bedroom.

A man has been jailed for life for murdering a businessman who was stabbed to death as he tried to stop thieves stealing his car.
Rory Gordon, 23, of Chadwell Heath, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 30 years at the Old Bailey for the murder of Harjinder Singh Bhurji.
Mr Bhurji, 32, was stabbed in the heart and left on the side of the road in Ilford, Essex, in 2011.
Jae'Don Fearon, 21, from Chingford, was jailed for 13 years for manslaughter.
Jurors found Gordon unanimously guilty of murder and Fearon was convicted of manslaughter on 30 April.
The court heard that the pair only stood to gain £500 from the carjacking.

A third defendant, Andre Campbell, 23, was found guilty of a charge of handling stolen goods after exchanging the victim's iPhone for £100.
Campbell received a 12-month sentence, which was suspended for two years, and a 12-month supervision order.
The trial heard Mr Bhurji was parked in Stoneleigh Road, Ilford, talking to a female friend when the carjackers struck, pulling the woman out of the Mercedes SLK coupe and demanding the keys.
Mr Bhurji told them he did not have the keys and threw them behind the driver's seat but was then stabbed in the heart.
During the trial Gordon admitted stabbing Mr Bhurji and that he went to steal the car armed with a knife.

A gangland supergrass has secured ten convictions for Manchester’s detectives.
Zeeshan Jameel, of Slade Lane, Levenshulme, and Rehman Ali, of Lindsay Avenue, Levenshulme, are the latest defendants to be convicted on the evidence of a witness who linked them to a shooting of a 19-year-old man in [url=http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/all-about/denton and audenshaw]Denton[/url] six years ago.
The pair had denied causing grievous bodily harm in a Manchester Crown Court retrial, but were found guilty and were sentenced to 13 years each.
At a previous trial, Asim Bashir, 25, of Parrs Wood Road, Ladybarn, was found guilty of causing GBH with intent was also sentenced to 13 years.
The crime would probably have gone unsolved if a petty villain, now on the witness protection scheme, hadn’t turned ‘supergrass’ in 2009.
He first exposed Mohammed Sarwar, then a teacher at Burnage High, as head of an organised crime group selling cocaine.
Those disclosures led to the conviction of seven people - including Sarwar and prison officer Robert Hart - for drugs offences. And it provided information about other drug dealers active from Oldham and Wythenshawe.
Jameel, Ali and Bashir were all cleared of being part of Sarwar’s drugs ring.
But it has now emerged that the trio made admissions to the witness about their role in a shooting at Wordsworth Road, Haughton Green, back in April 2008.
The victim, then 19, answered a call at his address and was confronted by three men who believed him to be a dealer. He ran into the house and shut the door but a .357 Magnum revolver was fired at it, and a bullet passed through and hit him in the shoulder.
The gun used in that shooting was recovered from Bashir’s home in May 2008, but he was not convicted of involvement in that shooting at the time.
The same weapon has been used by different sets of criminals in a number of shootings between 2004 and 2009, including the unsolved Stretford murder of Halton McCollin, 20, and the Longsight killing of Tyrone Gilbert, 24, both in 2008.
Following the convictions, DI Tony Norman, from GMP gangbusters Xcalibre Task Force, said: “They probably thought they had got away with shooting a young man in his home but had clearly not factored into their thinking our determination and commitment to see them brought to task.”

A man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a pregnant teenager in Oxford.

The girl, who was 17 at the time and cannot be identified, was attacked after waking up in a house in the city in December 2011, the trail has heard.

Mustafa Ahmed, 26, of Harrow Road, London, changed his plea to guilty at Oxford Crown Court earlier.

Two other men charged in connection with the assault have pleaded not guilty.

Zeeshan Ahmed, 28, of Palmer Road, Oxford, denies perverting the course of justice by threatening the girl.

His cousin Bilal Ahmed, 27, of Suffolk Road, Maidenhead, Berkshire, denies assault by penetration.

Bilal Ahmed took to the stand earlier to protest his innocence.

He repeatedly told the court: "All I know is that I didn't do it."
'DNA on clothing'
The trial previously heard the girl was told she would be shot if she did not stop talking to police about being sexually assaulted.

The girl and a friend were on a night out when she met Mustafa Ahmed who got into a taxi with them to a house in Cowley Road, the jury was told.

In a police interview played to the court, she said she woke to find a man, who the prosecution claimed was Mustafa Ahmed, sexually assaulting her.

The teenager said she was then assaulted by Bilal Ahmed.

The court heard the teenager's DNA was found on Bilal Ahmed's fingers and his DNA was found on her neck.

Mustafa Ahmed's DNA was found on the teenager's clothing, the jury was told.

The trial for Zeeshan Ahmed and Bilal Ahmed continues.

Mustafa Ahmed, originally from Palestine, was remanded in custody and will be sentenced next week.

Junior doctor in court over child sex and indecent images charges
A junior doctor working in paediatrics has appeared in court accused of sexual activity with a child and possessing indecent images of children.
Raza Laskar, 31, of Ashton-under-Lyne in Tameside, was charged after computers and other items were seized by police during a raid on a house in the town on 2 May.
The charges relate to a 15-year-old boy.
Dr Laskar was remanded in custody at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.
He is due to face a further hearing at the court on 19 September.
Ch Supt Caroline Ball said Dr Laskar had worked in hospitals across Greater Manchester but the police investigation was focussed "on locating anyone who may have come into contact with this man over the internet as opposed to through his employment".
A spokesman for NHS England said the organisation was working with police and assisting with their enquiries.

Mohamed Bajiwala accused of Leicester kidnap and child abuse
A man has appeared in court charged with kidnap and sexual offences involving children as young as eight.
Mohamed Bajiwala, 34, appeared before Leicester magistrates charged with kidnap, sexual assault and attempted sexual assault.
The 34-year-old, of Leicester, was remanded into custody to appear at Leicester Crown Court on 16 June.
The offences are alleged to have happened in Spinney Hills against boys aged 8, 10 and 12.
The court heard the alleged offences took place between February and May this year on three separate victims.
He faces one count of kidnap, two of sexual assault against two children and one of attempted sexual assault against a third child.

The 76 year-old victim was walking along the street in Weaste, Salford when a man and a woman approached her and asked her for some spare change.
As she looked in her handbag the man grabbed the bag and stole a “significant” amount of money before fleeing.
Police are now hunting the offenders involved in the incident, which happened on Weaste Lane between 2pm and 3:15pm.
The woman was around 30-years-old, Dark-skinned, short in height, with unkept hair and is of slim build.
She was wearing cream trousers and carrying a dark bag, and spoke with a Foreign accent.
The man was said to be between 30 and 40-years-old, Dark-skinned, around 5ft 10in tall with has dark hair. H
He was wearing jeans and a jacket and spoke with a Foreign accent.
Detective Constable Andrew Munden said: “This was a selfish and callous act and the woman is understandably extremely shaken by the event.”
