IPCC report: Scientists are 95% certain humans causing climate change

Scientists are more certain than they have ever been that humans are causing global warming, according to the most comprehensive report ever conducted into climate change, which predicts "with 95 per cent certainty" that people’s greenhouse gas emissions are heating the world.

This is the main finding of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) fifth assessment report, known as AR5, which was published in Stockholm this morning.

The degree of certainty leaves little doubt that greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane are responsible for climate change and compares to a finding of 90 per cent certainty in the previous - fourth - assessment six years ago. This, in turn, was a significant increase on the 66 per cent certainty reached in 2001's third assessment and just over 50 per cent in 1995.

AR5 has 840 main authors recruited from 38 of the IPCC's 195 member countries, with British and American scientists making the biggest contribution.

I don't think many rational people were ever in any doubt humans are the cause.

The thing is, even if humans are responsible for a lot of global warming, isn't that only transitory? When you think of the amount of pollution we belched out just 100 years ago compared to today there's a vast difference. Surely, at the rate we're making technological progress recently, we'll have sorted it out before it can do too much damage.

Either that or we'll have poisoned/sterilized all forms of food before then and 75% of the world's population will have starved to death - either way carbon emissions will be reduced.

Until I see world leaders and scientists walk to climate change summits I say "Baloney" to all of it.

How cutting emissions means paying more tax is beyond me, do they think the human race are thick as shit sheep?

except every single one of their claims have failed to happen. Despite more co2 being pumped into the atmosphere there hasn't been a corresponding rise in temperatures, in fact global temps have hardly risen at all in the last 10 to 15 years.
the computer models they are using are flawed and the assumptions they use to make the models are there to fit what they want to show, not what is actually occurring. the only true thing about man made global warming/climate change is that investigating it gets grants for scientists, makes billionaires out of those who are proponents of it and enables government to ramp up taxation. The very fact that very little of green taxation is used to further green energy should have warning bells ringing for millions.
It is a scam on on monumental scale and is as crooked as the hockey stick

Is it, have you read the report Dean or are in any way a scientist yourself?

If you have qualifications on the matter by all means explain away and discount there findings and will be interested to wait and see.

I think some scientists make laugh at such an association, anyway think what you like, what is of importance is to see there findings and then run a critical view over them, not poorly discount them before even reading them.

I don't need to read the report to know it will be a mixture of lies, fudges and unfounded accusations.
We all know the hockey stick is a nonsense. We all know that the himalayan glaciers are not going to disappear in 20 years.

the met office cannot predict tomorrows weather, so how are they and others going to predict it 20, 50, 100 years down the line.

none of the predictions of gloom have come to pass, everytime they do not the goal posts are moved. the people who make big bucks out of this have a vested interest in keeping the con going.
this is all about taxation and redistribution. If there was a real problem then the developing country's would not be able to trade their carbon emmisions and China who is becoming the biggest producer of greenhouse gasses would be forced to sign up. After all it is building coal powered power generating stations at a fantastic rate, and lets not forget it is also building large airports at an equally high rate.
The IPCC is just another vested interested group.

A consultant informs you that there is a 95% chance that you have cancer that will kill you if left untreated but is curable if treated right away. The question is do you believe in the 95% probability or do you wait for the absolute 100% verdict?

Haven't scientists whole groups of them been so sure they've reached the right conclusion only to be proved wrong?
For instance, sc ientists predicted that human beings would die if they travelled on the new fangled trains because of the speed, I think they have been proved wrong even if it is by leaves on the line.
