Park Assist....
So..I can spec' the above for the new motor..for both end on and parallel parking.
Now..I pride myself on being an half decent driver (having done the 'road craft' course etc and having driven over 500,000 miles since my last 'accident'...that was a lorry that reversed into me!)....however, it may be useful if the better half ever takes in upon herself to have a drive ..or if someone who may try to drive the wrong way up a one way street has a go in it.

Re: Park Assist....
Hi Hugh, the VW park assist is a brilliant piece of technology. In paticular if you have a towbar fitted. When you plug the towbar electrics into the car socket the park assist recognises that there is a trailer attached and makes allowance for it. One little annoyance is that when there is no trailer attached you have to manually take account of the extra five or six inches or so of the towbar and ball when reversing otherwise the assist would have you touching the car behind. It's all good stuff. -- Have never had the parallel parking option though.

I can't see the point of these things. the best space I ever got my car into, a bmw 525 by the way was so small that when I had finished my rear bumper was almost touching the car behind and I could not get my leg between the my car and the bumper of the car in front. It diod take me quite a time to wriggle it in but I was well chuffed at the time. thankfully by the time I came to leave both cars had gone.Hugh Jardon wrote:So..I can spec' the above for the new motor..for both end on and parallel parking.

I could not have done it without power steering though.

I'm just looking for some goodies to stick in it.
I can't have the rear view camera (it's going to be an estate) as I'm going for DAB (instead of the PURE Highway that I have now).
It's going to have front/rear sensors anyway, so figured that this would be great.
especially if it means that I can reverse onto the drive, whilst reading the paper.

well unless it has improved radically in the last couple of years DAB as in radio is a pile of cack in a car. There are so many cold spots around the country, or were, that it is really hard to listen to it, unlike analogue it doesn't go a bit fuzzy it just cuts out.
you are screwed if you go away from the population centres.
My personal DAB would cut out all the time when going down the M5 to plymouth. And in the further reaches of cornwall would not work at all.
I certainly hope they get the transmitters going before they switch off FM which is a really dumb idea in my opinion. How many cars will that make that cannot use the built in radio.
Re: Park Assist....
DAB isn't that BAD to be honest.
The AM in the current car is crap, long wave (for TMS) is none existent
Also with mine I can pause or re-wind live broadcasts.
The last edition of What Car did a spread on DAB...it will be a few years until AM/MW gets potted.

well it must have improved a lot in that last couple of years because when I was travelling all over then south west it was crap. Very good if you are in a good signal area, but whilst travelling they could be few and far between.
I never listened to am.mw but FM was good as far as I was concerned although I only listened to radio 4 or occasionally radio 2.
I prefer BBC7 which has now been re-branded 4extra.
