I Am Gutted

I have today received a email from a 'genuine friend', I am beside myself with grief.
He tells me he has just found out he is doubly seriously ill with 'you know what', I cannot bring myself to say the actual word.
You cannot believe how fit he has been over the years, he wishes he had been to 'well man' type clinics for routine check ups.

I have not seen him for 6 months but have had regular email contact.

If any man wanted a real friend, he would be the one to have.

I can't say any more.

Major,   I have had Cancer for 12 yrs,   it is not always an immediate death sentence.

Sorry to hear that nicko, just proves a point, you never know the person to whom you are talking with.

I'm sorry to hear that Major.
Its hard when we hear valued friends are ill.

My OH went to a former workmates funeral last week, he was talking to another ex workmate, the man seemed healthy and fit, he was in his late 60's.
Oh received a phone call last night, this man had died suddenly after suffering a heart attack.

Things like this make you realise life is for living. x

I have seen you posting somewhere before that you were ill Nicko, I didn't know it was cancer but I guessed it was.
Like you say people can live with it for many years....I hope you still have a good quality of life and manage to enjoy what you still can do. x

I have just come off 'chemo' and the latest stats. for cancer are : 'Half of UK people' will get cancer. One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives, analysis suggests. I hate it when I hear of someone with this affliction.

This man is a 'diamond geeza'.

Had Prostate Cancer 13yrs ago, had Prostate taken out. Surgeon said it had spread but not too far,  Have to have some type of Chemo injection every month.  A year after prostate removed I had serious Heart attack,  ended up with Quadruple Bypass.  In the years since,  Kidney Stones removed, Gall stones diagnosed plus Aortic Anorysem discovered.i wont mention the Fibromyalger, [ my spelling is crap]   But people, I'M STILL BREATHING. !

I had gallstones out by keyhole surgery.

Had my prostate shaved from up my wee wee thingy.

Both trivial ops compared.

This reminds me of the lethal weapon film when people were trying to outdo each other with their various disabilities. 

Last time I was in hospital I was next to a woman who was the image of Thor Hird,  she had so much done and so many illnesses she was like the bionic woman....had she posted here she would have even beaten Nicko.

I cannot stress the genuiness of this human being, he is certainly in my top three of 'good guys' outside of family. 

He sent the email to EVERYONE in his computer diary which is vast, they are starting to reply and clicking reply to ALL button so I am able to see their personal sorrow and concern, very touching.

I will reply.

Cancer is the scourge of the modern age and the statistics are truly frightening. Equally devastating is the impact on the lives not only of sufferers but also their families, friends and carers. Sadly, I can speak from first hand experience.

If there is any comfort to be found it is in the fact that advances in medicine have been, and still are, so great that many of us are living much longer than even  our parents and grandparents, and it has to be accepted as inevitable that the longer we live, the greater the potential for the development of most if not all diseases.

Major I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. I lost my cousin, my mum, my husband and my favourite sister-in-law to that horrible disease.

after they all died i came across something on youtube about cannabis curing cancer. He did a whole programme thing on it, how he made some kind of oil out of the cannabis plant. He says it has cured him and others but government would never allow cos of the pharmeceutical companies controlling stuff.

I am sick over this, I have seen so much of it over the years, no one is safe.

I do not usually feel down but this one has got me.


My very best friend of 60 odd years plus was diagnosed with the dreaded down below, 2 weeks ago, after about 2 years he got the all clear after treatment in Coventry Uni Hosp., this was a plus.

Just thinking to myself, maybe I should not have raised this thread as it could upset some people, I did not imagine it would bring out personal details.
