If aliens come they would be coming to stay. Interstellar distances are too great for a fleeting visit. the light barrier seems to be the problem there.
even if you approach light speed by somehow having constant acceleration it would still take decades to get to the nearest stars. I am not sure we have managed anything faster than 100000 miles an hour, if that yet.
there may be space faring peoples, but I think that would be local system, not interstellar.

I'm not sure I would like to be proved wrong about aliens in spaceships arriving as it would probably mean the same end for us as it did for the aztecs.
the alien invasion movies are probably more accurate than say ET.
