Why are Iranians crossing the Channel in dinghies?

More than 100 migrants, claiming to be Iranian, have attempted the dangerous journey by small boat to the UK in the past three weeks. Why?


On 23 November, shortly before sunrise, eight migrants were found clinging to a dinghy in choppy waters off the coast of Kent.


They told their rescuers they had spent 12 hours at sea.


It was a similar story the day before, when seven more were found in a boat just off the Dover coast - the same number of people had been pulled from an inflatable boat just a few hours earlier. ...........

They can't afford the fare !

because it's only 20 miles or so and they think they can get away with it.
they should be returned to france on the first ferry

Thatcher was an enthusiast, Bob, but a Frenchman, Albert Mathieu, came up with the idea in 1802. A company was formed to start the project about 70 years later, but it went bust, and it was Harold Wilson who finally gave UK government approval in the 1970s.

He was a Labour PM, as I recall.

(And yes, I know it was put on hold for several years until the Thatcher era.)

that may have been because the country was broke again after suffering labour governments.

As I was saying, the small number risking their lives to cross the channel are Iranians, Iraqis, Afgans and Syrians, they're English speaking with relatives in the UK. We (the West) have inflicted decades of bombing and terrorism on these unfortunate human beings.

Should we have turned away the kinder transports of the 30s and 40s?

I'm not sure if any of you are British because you seem to lack the capacity to realise our status in this world, we are the state of the art nation, our very fabric is interwoven with global enlightenment, we are in many ways a beacon of hope for a fair and decent civilised society, the world looks up to us for an example.

Its all well and good quoting far right Holocaust denying Neo Nazi propaganda but that is a vague and discredited minority viewpoint, its callous and it's simply unBritish.

As I've already stated our immigration policy could have been controlled under current legislation nine years ago, it was not, hopefully when we leave the EU this will become a priority and the right type of migrants are utilised in various roles including seasonal agricultural workers and social care provisions.

These human beings are persecuted, displaced refugees, they're risking their lives crossing the channel in dinghies, they are desperate, they're fleeing a nightmare that we've created in their lands.

Show some compassion and we'll be rewarded for it.

we havent bombed iran, although I agree Iran has exported terrorism to every corber of the middle eats
