chess has lasted a couple of years.
for electronic games
bloody sonic
now does anyone remember space chess?
Re: What games will echo through eternity, which will never be spoken of again...
well if its any game then non of the electronic games will last because when they make the next consol it will be released with another genre that will capture ppls imagination
the only games that will last will be board games like monopoly stuff like that
but then again saying that
does anyone know anyone with a monopoly set
i dont have any board games and havent since i was about 10

i think games like fifa or the golf ones will always live on
games like guitar hero have a one off hit then ppl get bored wih them
well i did anyway
i dont think the cod games are gonna be around much longer
all they are doing now is making the same game with different map packs
its a good qustion tho i never thought of it like that before
with like the ps2 the best games on there were the tomb raider games
but they died out even tho they were a big hit

I dumped my monopoly set when I moved. I got it in the 60's and the box was on its last legs. you can get a PC version.

you are right about some games just rehashing the same thing.
but that is because some formats just works. after all pacman is the original forebear of all the doom style games that have followed on for the last couple of decades.
much like platform games, they are all rehashes of donky kong.
and lets not forget the original classic space games like asteroids and defender.
I remember the excitement in the pub when the first pong machines arrive. People would spend a fortune on them.

I do like golf games on the wii
I started playing golf for real after getting hooked on tiger woods on the Xbox.

The game that would live on throughout time? What kind of American would I be if I didn't say: Baseball.
Invented in the late 1890's, Abner Doubleday gets most of the credit. It is a simple game that any child who can count to 3 can play. A game that until the technological changes of the 1980's kids played for hours on every street and dirt lot across the U.S. A game that does not require brute strength, but finesse and the strategy of a chess game.
My spouse and I try and go to at least one game a year, normally in the spring. Baseball is the one sport you really can't experience unless you go to a ball park and watch in person. The sight of the perfect green field, along with the smell of roasted peanuts and spilled beer is just as important as the excitement of jumping up with the rest of the crowd and roaring when your team hits a home run. The fun of doing the wave.... the intense pleasure of giving the umpire a raspberry when he makes a bad call against your team...
This sport is the backdrop of my life. I'm linking one of the best songs about baseball ever written. I hope you enjoy the video along with it. They are clips of some of our legends: Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio (who was married to Marilyn Monroe) and Willie Mays, one of the first black professional baseball players.

yes but you are the xbox and ps3 generation
it was a revolution back then pong was black and white and just a bar and a square ball and people would kill to get on machine in the pub. Imagine what it will be like should they ever invent a direct brain implant for total imersive games. compared to playing on an xbox. The only thing we had to play in the pub before then was a pinball machine or shove ha'penny. or darts.
you missed out on the whole evolution of the games world and arrived in time to see decent graphics and pretty good games. the best are still just variations of pac man and donkey kong and space invaders.
the first computer game I played was a sort of text only version of a dungeons and dragons.
go north
time passes
go west
time passes
go west
time passes
look
you see a ring
pick up ring
etc etc
people would play that for hours.
and it was only blank and white text on on a screen running on a spectrum if you were really cutting edge.

well back then channel 4 might not have even started.
no satellite and mobile phones were the size of a briefcase.
but you can trace the evolution and layot of most games from then. the graphics have improved but the are basically the same.
the deciding factor of course is not necessarily the wow factor, but is it enjoyable.
Duke nukem was a massive hit when it came out. Many since have just been clones and I see they have released an up to date version now.
Another fun game was leisure suit larry which had the aspects of an adventure game and sex.
It was also available as a cracked game on the fledgling internet, however some hacked versions carried a deadly payload, when you finished it formatted your hard drive. I heard of at least one person who played it on his work network. Ooopppsssssss

COLDITZ..and that Mastermind Game ...the one with the Thai looking piece, who'd give you a 'happy ending' for a £1 note!

so it looks as if this is in two sections.
if we are talking about 'gaming' then Lunar Landing is up there.
As is Hogs of War on the PS1/2.
Alex Kidd on the master System, with Psycho Fox.
Team Buddies (with the filthiest language I've ever heard on a "kid's" game)
Earthworm Jim
I have quite a lot of 'retro' games on the Wii (including Sonic) but still play Lemmings on this pc

I had an xbox for tiger woods and grand theft and now have a wii for tiger woods again as there is not a gold course within 250 miles. but the games I go back to the most are mah jong and dominoes and chess.
I had lots of flight sim games for the PC years ago but could only bomb iran or iraq so many times
I loved MS flight sim for a while and it is very good for getting familiar with flying. I used to play doom and quake a lot and have the online version of quake but haven't played it much.
I once spent 24 house playing the theme park game. Never played a soccer sim in my life.
I like medal of honour but never got round to playing online, but our mutual friend used to play lot on line.
I really should start playing some war games again as I now have the 42inch HD TV to play them on. But there just aren't enough hours in the day

I leant a neighbour QUAKE...never saw it again!
The MS sim was great and Theme Hospital still gets a run out.
The resident Resi's (plural of RESUS) will be treated to an Xbox kinnect (?)thing at Xmas
These games have been crying out for HD tv.
Whilst the Wii doesn't use HDMI I bought a composite kit and the sound/picture is great.
A work colleague just doesn't 'get' the likes of a Wii...I had to explain that they help do just what a TV was meant to do...keep the family entertained/amused instead of everyone sat there in silence!

yes no HD is a bit of a let down, but the picture still looks good .
the wii is a bit of a kiddies console, but was the cheapest option for me to get a decent golf game.
If I had the room I would go the whole hog and get a golf simulator and practice net for the PC

Strangely, I bought the Wii in order to help heal my shoulder after a bit of an op' a few years ago.
I needed some form of sport (karate, tennis, cricket were a complete NO NO) to exercise it..with little or no impact.
Wii Sports was perfect...
My physio and surgeon were amazed on how well I had progressed, within a very short timeframe.
I'd class the Wii as a more 'family friendly' console..though the swearing that the other half does when playing Lego Star Wars with the kids is unbelievable.
As the other shoulder is being to 'play up' I will certainly do the same again...once I've been 'fixed'.

I knackered my shoulder in the month or so before I moved here by playing 18 or 36 holes of real golf everyday or every other day. the wii has just made it worse, so I haven't played for some time.

it seems as if you have an underlying medical condition only rest will lessen the problem.
My condition had been treated and I was advised to keep the shoulder active- albeit gently.
It's now totally cured and I had full movement within a fortnight.
