Cheltenham Festival

The cheltenham festival, otherwise known as the greatest show on turf, starts this Tuesday.

One of the big races on Tuesday is the Arkle chase trophy, a novice chase race over the minimu distance of two miles.

The hot favourite for the race is Nicky Hendersons Sprinter Sacre. This horse has been a revelation over fences, leaving its hurdle form behind him. Whilst it probably should win....the are two big stats that Spinter Sacre needs to overcome.

1 - there has only been 1 winning favourite in the last 10 years

2 - this race normally goes the way of one of the highest rated hurdlers. There are 4 horses that have higher hurdle ratings in:-

Al ferof, Cue Card, Blackstairs Mountain and Menorah.

Al Ferof, Cue Card and Menorah have all won or been close at the festival before.

The are two routes to profit from this race, potentially, although both lie around sprinter scare getting beat.

The first would be to lay sprinter Sacre on the exchanges, which means you are essentially having an even money bet that any other horse wins, before commission of 5%.

The second would be to go to paddy power, who are offering money back on this race if sprinter does win. It is possible to back Al Ferof, Cue Card, Menorah and Blackstairsmountain at 9/4, 6/1, 9/1 and 14/1.
