The William Hill Lincoln
The Lincoln is the big handicap to kick of the flat season and takes place tomorrow at Doncaster.
Ran over a mile, one should pay attention to the draw of the winnig horses in the earlier race, the spring mile to see how the tack is riding and to identify any draw preference.
The race is also a strong race for trends and patterns. These should not be looked at in isolation, but to form a short list for your chosen selection or selections.
All of the last 10 were aged 6 or younger
9 of the last 10 winners came from stall 6 or higher
8 of the last 10 winners came from stalls 6-16 inclusive
8 of the last 10 were having their first run of the new flat season
7 of the last 10 winners carried 9-0 or less
6 of the last 10 were won by a 4 year-old
6 of the last 10 had previously won over a mile
4 of the last 10 won their previous race
3 of the last 10 were won by the favourite
None of the last 10 winners had previously won a race at Doncaster
Since 1988 only one winner aged 8 or older
Since 1985 only one winner has carried more than 9-5 to win
The average winning SP in the last 10 years is 12.6/1
Since 1985 there have been 18 winners priced at double-figure odds
Johnny Murtagh has ridden the last two winners
Jimmy Fortune has ridden the winner in 2000, 2001 and 2009
William Haggas has trained the winner in 1992, 2007 & 2010
Mark Tompkins trained the winner in 2004 & 2008
Note: The 2007 renewal was run at Newcastle and the 2008 at Redcar
My short list using these selections would be as follows:-
Eton forever 7/1
Man of action 16/1
Cocozza 10/1
Fury 8/1
Don't call me 22/1
If I had to come down I would back fury and don't call me Each way.
Hunters of value could do worse than back Just Past Andover at around the 6/1 mark in the race after, the Brocklesby. The trainer, bill turner tries hard to win this race and he has had 4 winners and 2 seconds out of his last 10 runners. A smaller stable, coming all the way from the south west, his horses are often overlooked in favour of the biggers stables.
Whatever you decide - good luck with your investments

Forgo to say - watch the spring mile and see if there is a draw bias. Can always add another selection if there is a real bias and they come home drawn 1-5 etc

If I had known that you were carrying him.... I would have put my money elsewhere.
My horseracing days are long gone, from Nashwan, Old Vic, Dr Devious, Terimon, Grand Lodge, Cacoethes, Dayjour etc...

Good evening Durham.
Thanks for your efforts & I hope you do well tomorrow.I still can't make my mind up about the Lincoln which means I'll probably leave it alone.
I can't help but want to bet on St.Nicholas Abbey at Meydan.

Good afternoon Durham.
So many horses in one race gets my head in a spin so all I've done is place a £1 win double on Sirius Prospect & Eton Forever.
I'd love to have backed St.Nicholas Abbey but his race is so competitive that I've left it alone.

Well fury was 3rd in the big race at 8/1 to that got a little profit and those playing Eton forever with paddy power or signet would have got paid out on fifth.
The usual hard start to the flat season with a 50/1 winner of the first!

Edinburgh Knight was given a good chance, held up nicely but might do better at 7f. 4th.

Good afternoon Folks.
Yep.....the hardest day gambling of the season has been & gone, along with my double.
But good to see that St.Nicholas Abbey ran an excellent second & I'll be following him again this season.

Hi Shady
I think following St Nicholas Abbey for the season will pay its way - especially on the mainland and not in Ire

Yes he's on my shortlist of about 10 that I will follow but the main three that I'm waiting for are Excelebration,Native Khan & Temple Meads.
Temple Meads did well for me as a 2 year old but didn't last year as a 3 year old.His trainer said that he'll be a better 4 year old.So I hope that he runs well this season.
The main reason that these three are my bankers,so to speak is that I just can't see such good horses not winning at leasta couple of races this season...maybe they'll win more.
I think you'll know that if Frankel hadn't have been around then Excelebration would have been something special.
