Basically not worth your while unless you are not on the gas grid.
You'd be lucky to get a cop of 4 to1
In very simple terms they work in an opposite way to a fridge.
I'm not on the pc so typing is a pain on the iPod.
Will give you the info soon!

Actually they work better in colder climates.
Ok for swimming pools ... Or if you have oversized rads pipe work or under-floor heating

wow cool
no gas
so how do they work
the guy i have to liaise with is a dick head and i cant make sense of what he says
he thinks if he gets technical i will understand when i dont know half the terms he uses
basically i have to get some points together for a ad and marketing campaign for an air source heat pump
i dont know wtf they r except that they r f**king expensive

My advice is to read your competitions blurb.
Long winded posts on an iPod aren't easy.
In a nutshell they utilise the latent heat in air.
Basically even air at 0c has useable energy.
Hence why a homes pipe work and rad sizes have to be increased to utilise the lower flow temperatures.

Yes they do, but if i can get away with it thats the only scenario i advise them for..........of gas i would go biomass first, cheaper to run and pelletts available from all national merchants........well GSHP really if they have the space......as they will get a constant for a pool............However Hugh CHP is perfect for those scenarios even better if you have a pool ha.....constant temperature means constant kw.....

Can't argue with much of that...but bio mass is a bloody joke and is far from green.just consider how a tree gets felled... Chopped.. Dried.. Transported... Etc. as you know I'm a massive fan of chp ... Hydraulic interfaces etc. heat pumps have a place but much prefer ground or water source over air.

But in regs biomass is probably the only thing that is actually classed as a carbon neutral heating systyem...(regs not reality).......if off gas then its sound as you don't need to change rads or the heating system (maybe the cylinder) our biomass gives around 62% reduction in SAPS happy days when it comes to regs.........benefit is the merchant will deliver the pellets the same way as the likes of brett oils drops the fuel off......winner if off gas

Re: air source heat pumps
Yep... Of you are off the gas grid then you don't have a lot of choice... I do a fair bit with biomass- at a domestic and commercial level... However I'm still not a fan as such.
Don't get me wrong...I would have one if I was off the grid... and had enough land to produce my own fuel.
SAP can be a 'mare... And the only way to cream it is with a mchp.
There's a lot I could discuss on this- but not on an open forum.
On the subject of efficiencies... The set point on my boiler has not been above 60c all winter...You will know just how efficient that will be.

Re: air source heat pumps
About pellets - I'm surrounded by forestry here, and have a couple of acres of my own included in my land. The trees were felled last year, and the wood goes for proper use - the pellets are only made from the stuff that used to be thrown away, the outside of trunks etc. Also I used to get free sawdust from the timber mills but that's used for pellets, so I'm saying trees aren't felled to make pellets. I still don't think they're much cop though - too expensive. I'd prefer this heat pump idea if it was practical.Hugh Jardon wrote:

I have repaired a few of the pellet machines, and one think i did
notice due to the sap/resin in the pellets if they are not stored properly they can self combust, a bit like haystacks.

the problem with pellets is that they have to be kept dry.
