Can I remind people that the news section is for news stories

That rather implies current stories. Old stories whilst being of interest can reside in other sections. If it isn't from the last week or so then it does not belong in this section.

And lets try and stay slightly on topic and not deflect to totally unrelated issues.

I wanted to post about Royston the town that has a 'ring of steel 'around it via number plate recognition cameras. Alas though it seems i'm not allowed to start a topic and not allowed to comment on some others . If I cant interact properly on this forum there is no point at all in it.
