I hope you're all watching Derek. I've just watched the first episode - reminds me of the old people's home my mum worked in - she used to take me there when she was on nights and i slept on the settee - the old biddies loved having a kid around.

as I said when the pilot was shown many months ago. this is probably the best thing Ricky Gervais has ever done.
It has everything in it, true comedic moments, pathos, moments a real sadness and moments of great joy, excellent characters the only person who may be overdone is kev
Karl pilkington is fantastic as dougie and a real surprise as an actor. Although Ricky did write it as what karl would have been if they had never met. lol!


I remember the rubbish that was spouted before it was shown by people who had never seen it and am so pleased that they have been shown to be absolute assholes.
If this series does not win a bafta then its rigged.
ricky's portrayal of Derek is superb. He does not over do it and I have seen people just like him in real life.
It is not cruel and extremely touching. the scene in the pilot when the old lady dies was done to perfection. his stroking her hair would bring tears to the eyes of the hardest bugger.
