Why is John Terry being taken to court?

Has he murdered somebody? raped someone, stolen something, vandalized property ...?

Oh sorry... I forgot... he might have said a rude word that hurt somebody's feelings.

I know. It's bloody unbelievable. Can you imagine someone from 50 years ago travelling forward in time and listening to the reports of someone having his career ruined, or the tube woman having her children taken away and her beeing carted off to prison - for saying something rude/offensive? They'd think they'd been transported to some Orwellian parallel universe. Where's it all going to end I wonder?

Whether John Terry is a racist or not, is up for discussion, whether he has broken a law and whether that law should exist are also up for discussion.

Whether John Terry is a beaver or not isn't

The charge is here:

"On 23 October 2011 at Loftus Road Stadium, London W12, you used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress which was racially aggravated in accordance with section 28 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.

it does seem that like many laws rushed through by labour it is badly worded and not thought through.

Now who is john terry and what has he done?
