Did anyone see the title fight last night between Froch and Groves? could not get it on tv unless I paid £15 for it. Listened to it on radio. Froch won by a knockout in the 8th round.Glad he won, Grove was boasting for days he was going to win,he had a shock when Frock's right hand put an end to it!!!

Didn't see it I escaped to bed, I've seen most of the build due to hubby and son in law and I must say its pretty peculiar where two blokes stand toe to toe apparently supposed to be glaring at one another and I found Froch or whatever his name is to be very unsporting but that's the way of it these days I suppose. I used to like most sport but it so well false now I rarely watch it.

Cassius Clay aka  Muhammad Ali  was the greatest of them all.

He is a year younger than I am and I loved watching him fight,  I was boxing at the same time but only as an amature,  we did not wear head-guards then as amatures do now.
I still have all my faculties and nearly as fit as ever,  so it makes me sorry to see how Ali's health has deteriorated,  he was a great showman and a joy to watch in the ring.

Our 'Enery nearly had him out though,  another gentleman,  we don't have their likes now.

A different time entirely, Wyatt, most sports people were just that, sports and gentlemen (or women) there was hardly an ego amongst them, I don't suppose everyone was lily white though.

No indeed,  remember Brian London, (used to get beaten by Cooper quite often),  he had a reputation as a bully at his local dance halls.

The sports men and women relied on their skills then instead of all the hype and steroids that infest sports now,  and the money was nothing like now.

I watched a news report on the welsh shooting and archery teams for the Commonwealth games and to be honest with all the technology now on the guns and bowsI wonder whereth skill is.
I think I'll call it a night the internet is playing up and its a struggle to type any thing sensible or otherwise my keyboard has turned into an Enigma machine.

Remember when the Irish fencing team turned up in Seoul but were 1 day late.  The Olympic committee were true sportsmen and let them build a fence around the car park.

I didn't see it but I agree with Wyatt that Ali was the best ever.
i only did amateur stuff as well but I loved boxing when growing up but then started work, going to pubs,
Only started smoking at 17 because i'd been sent to a detention centre and if you were a smoker you got a few minutes
smoking break every so often from working but if a non smoker you had to keep mopping the floors or whatever so like
a prat I started smoking just for that few minutes break.
36 years or so later and i've never been able to quit head bangcrying
