For now that the Government has successfully persuaded us to invest in diesel, it has emerged that the fuel is not only less efficient than we were led to believe, but dirtier and more damaging to the environment than petrol. So much so, in fact, that it is killing us in our tens of thousands.

This week, Professor Frank Kelly, chairman of the Department of Health's committee on air pollution, said diesel engines could be responsible for more than 7,000 deaths a year because of the pollutants they emit. He added that governments had taken the 'wrong route' for decades by encouraging drivers to switch from petrol.

Persuade us to do something...and then tax it. Sounds about right.

I went to the village shop in my Peugeot 3008 2 litre diesel this morning: The death toll has been horrendous. Thousands (well, a badger and a couple of hedgehogs) are lying dead beside the road and there's a full scale emergency as ambulances flock to tend to a vole which was seen coughing in the long grass on Farmer Snodgrass's 25-acre field.

Oh, and a fox has been quarantined and is being tested for ebola after being seen scratching its arse in the field behind Ye Olde Frogge & Nightgowne pub.

Where do they find all the "Experts" and each one with a different opinion, they must come in economy sized boxes and we pay for them !!

well diesel is more efficient if MPG is believed. However if councils and government have a policy of deliberately forcing traffic to a standstill in towns and citys to force us onto public transport( mainly diesel) then it does emit more pollutants.
