Lets Pretend for a moment - That global warming is a lie
it is still worth investing in other forms of energy creation ---- unless of course you believe that once all the worlds fossil fuel reserves are depleted that a wood elf will wave his magic wand and all of a sudden mankind will be granted infinite easy to access energy

Reducing consumption of finite resources is one thing bob, and something I support.
Erecting structures which don't work, taxing people on junk science, while all he time these sycophants are flying around to congress after congress (on my tax dollar) is clearly ridiculous.
If these people believed half of what they spout, they would never set foot on an aeroplane ever again

There have been some serious concerns recently about a huge release of methane from the oceans. This has been caused by the permafrost melting and the plants that have been frozen for millenia defrosting and letting off the methane. If this isn't caused by global warming what is the cause I wonder?

I'd be asking why these plants have been frozen over for millenia? first.

The earth has warmed and cooled and warmed again since time began.
My understanding is that the earth is going through a cooling cycle.
However, of course it makes good sense to not waste any natural resource.
Over 8 million UK households do not have a room thermostat- heating alone offers a householder the greatest potential savings and yet we have been forced down the route of using 'eco friendly' bulbs (lamps).

And I would ask what warmed that up.

The planet has been in a state of change since it was formed. What we are seeing is just the natural progression of change. It is nothing to do with man made polution. The G/Warming scare is just spin, put out by millionaires making a killing from the useless efforts that they have convinced Governments to embark on.

there is no doubt the climate is changing. It has been changing since the planet cooled enough to have an atmosphere. the problem is with blaming it on man. there is not enough evidence to prove a link.
the current determination to power the country by windmills is flawed beyond belief. they need full back up by conventional power sources for the time they cannot work so it is better to build those for now and use the "sustainable" sources as an addition, not a primary source for the time being. the green tax are no such thing, they are revenue device for the government to scalp the people and make out they are doing it for our benefit.
if the government were serious about kick starting the economy then they could reduce the taxes on all fuel sources and the trickle down would benefit everyone.

dont get me started on eco lamps, which are anything but as they require special handling on disposal.
What a con.

Where is the waste going to be stored (i know some people will probably think it should be dumped in the sea just of the coast of Africa) --- but seriously?

It depends on what form of alternative energy. I believe the consensus is that wind farms and solar energy don't provide the same bang (read power) for the same bucks. Wind farms especially are incredibly ineffective.
I think the focus should be first on vehicle fuel (cars, planes, etc) - bio fuels as a renewable source is a good start. But this tends to decrease food supply and therefore inflationary.
Fuel cells are a great idea but too expensive for the common market.
Alternatives are there - but it's all about economics at the moment.
Anyway - got to go.

compliance with the EuP and SAP points are driving the market.
