We can't afford new cancer wonder drugs, warns NICE: Watchdog rules that revolutionary treatment that can shrink tumours in months will not be available in England and Wales
[*]Nivolumab is twice as effective as chemotherapy with far fewer side effects
[*]Experts say it can shrink cancer patient's tumours after just a few months
[*]But a watchdog has warned the drug will be too expensive for the NHS
[*]NICE will advise the treatment should not be made available in England and Wales

Our bastard so called government prefers spending your money on "Foreign Aid" (Help the terrorists aid) than spending it on the NHS.
Where is Guy Fawkes when you need him??

We're just the lab rats for the fat cats.
And they don't want to cure us, they want to control us, use us and abuse us. Do not think otherwise about the NHS or our 'bastard so called government'.

that would be £¼billion pounds a year, or around 8 or 9000 nurses

nearly £40million a year to treat 100 patients and it doesnt even cure them just prolongs the period they need the drugALLAKAKA wrote: Aydin Bukhari with dad Waqas
The parents of a young boy diagnosed with an ultra rare condition have spoken of his relief after NHS bosses agreed to fund a life-saving wonder drug.
Six-year-old Aydin Bukhari suffers from the debilitating condition Morquio Syndrome – a life-limiting, inherited disease, which if left untreated, leads to a progressive deterioration in mobility, health and stamina.
There are fewer than 100 people in England with the condition, which affects the metabolic system, and Aydin, from Chorlton has spent the last four years taking part in a trial of the Vimizim drug at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
Earlier this year, the family was devastated to learn that funding for the drug – which costs £395,000 a year per patient – could be be withdrawn.
Thankfully, after months of campaigning by families and politicians across the country, it was announced that the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) had approved the live-enhancing drug meaning it would be available on the NHS.
Aydin’s dad Waqas Bukhari, 45, says the decision is a huge weight off their shoulders.
He said: “It’s not a cure but what it will do is prolong his life and give him the ability to try and live a normal life as much as possible.
“The drug halts the progression of the condition so by receiving it he will stop it getting worse.
“Knowing that he will now be able to access the drug is a huge relief and a big weight off our shoulders.
“It also means that other children with the condition who weren’t part of the trial will now be able to access the drug as well.
“It’s a huge victory for people with rare conditions like this.”

I'm sure the father of this child would be all in favour of suspending foreign aid , restricting asylum seeker and economic migrants to use the money saved in giving the people of this country the medical aid they have paid for.

I would like to know why these scientists continue to create a treatment or a cure IF it is too expensive. They would know in good time if a drug was costly therefore should be made to stop.
We pay for this and i can promise if any hob-nobbing politician or high flying elite needed the drug THEY WILL GET IT WHATEVER THE COST OR EVEN IF ITS ON THE OPEN MARKET OR NOT.

So why bother creating the drug in the first place?

and that is one reason why the NHS will never have enough money. New expensive treatments come along all the time to keep people alive for longer. I have a feeling we are supposed to wear out for a reason.dragonfly wrote:nearly £40million a year to treat 100 patients and it doesnt even cure them just prolongs the period they need the drug

I agree to a certain extent for e.g. only the rich can take advantage yet we all pay for the research. It should be about survival of the fittest not richest. The human race will become so weak it will be wiped out by something as simple as the common cold.
I don't see the point in going ahead creating a drug knowing it will be so expensive - far too expensive. Besides which, the NHS, pharma companies and researchers should focus on prevention not cure. And the only reason they are working backwards is to make money by becoming the biggest drug pushing organisation the world has ever seen. Addiction everywhere and with the amount of shit we eat in the way of GMO's and chemicals etc, no wonder we need fixing with more Frankenstein creations.

we dont pay for the research, private companies by and large pay for the research and development of new drugs. for those that do work, many wont have. The rewards for these companies can be great, but the investment is also greatdragonfly wrote:Flap Zappa wrote:

Yes youre quite right flappy. Its a catch 22 situation really as more money means the skys the limit research-wise but would be/could be a very costly gamble. I still think we should focus on prevention more than cure and really do think we need to accept euthanasia as a persons rightful choice.Flap Zappa wrote:

The pharma companies aren't going to focus on prevention - they're there to develop and market new drugs. Anyway, half the time nobody knows what causes certain illnesses, so they can't really prevent them anyway.

They should be focusing on prevention.
Its because we dont study what causes illness why we dont know how to prevent them. If we did it could help eliminate the need for drugs simply by changing how we do things, certain lifestyles or changing the populations diet, work agenda. Both of which play a large part in why we are ill and die young in the first place.
As for other illnesses and diseases more complicated, well, if people are healthy and looking after themselves in general, eating the right beneficial food (not gmo crap) rather than overweight (caused by man made food) then youd be able to concentrate the entire time on this research alone and afford to help those with medical needs. Not only that but the NHS would have more money at the end of this transaction (saving on treatment brought on by obesity: heart probs, diabetes etc, probs from our work patterns: stress, bad diets, ulcers, binge drinking, drugs, stress, stress, stress etc etc.
All this is bough on by how we live and what we eat. The gov should come up with a new plan. Thats how you research prevention and end up with money for life saving drugs that you have time to research.
Then if research really had no help, those who are suffering should have the option to step out of this world with dignity and pride if they so wish.
