The old startrek is certainly very popular. I'm not sure the die hard original fans appreciate the new adaption - it all a bit too slick, too much cgi perhaps. I don't know what it is. I know I prefer to watch the 'old team' films but then I also prefer the old 'War of the Worlds' , 'The Terminator Series and even The Day the Earth Stood Still etc. Some over acting maybe but I prefer that to too much cgi. I dread remakes and most new sci fi films, though I really enjoyed 'The Martian' thankfully so far they are never as bad as I think they might be but still lack something, it seems to be all fizz and bang and not much substance.

the original star trek series was of its day and was not a patch on what came after , next generation, DS9, Voyager and even the prequel Enterprise. the series really got some depth once it was rebooted and stopped being cowboys in space.Flix wrote:The old startrek is certainly very popular. The 1st star trek movie was dreadful. Far too long and far too many lingering shots of the enterprise in dry dock, and basically a rehash of an early star trek episode called The Doomsday Machine.
Wrath of khan was good and search for spock also but the best of the early star trek movies was by far the 4th one, The voyage home. Good story, lots of fish out of water humour and a good finish. the other 2 were fairly forgettable

Star Trek Discovery starts next year
Is that the replacement for the late (sob, sob) Land Rover Discovery?

While I have to agree with you in general - I still don't enjoy the new films as much, too brash, each of the series did get better and I enjoyed them all.Flap Zappa wrote:

that may be down to jj abrhams taking over as director and completely reinventing the series .Flix wrote:While I have to agree with you in general - I still don't enjoy the new films as much, too brash, each of the series did get better and I enjoyed them all.Flap Zappa wrote:

I do like his fast action pace though. Not sure why they decided to make Sulu gay in the new one as George Takei played him as a straight man for years. A new gay character would have served just as well.
Re: Star Trek Beyond.
Things have to change I suppose. There was such a good number of series on - usually from the US, Stargate SG 1, Atlantis, can't remember the other one in the ancients' space ship, Farscape, and Babylon 5 enjoyed all of them.

Re: Star Trek Beyond.
I have them all on DVD and the movies as well.and did a marathon watching of them over a couple of weeks a few years back. Of course I saw them all as they were shown on TV as well.ALLAKAKA wrote:Flap Zappa wrote:

I've got every episode of Babylon 5 on DVD (new unopened ) , had them for a few years and never got round to watching them.
