Historical Vote in ROI
The result in Ireland's historic referendum on relaxing abortion laws has been a "resounding" yes.
Speaking shortly after the result was confirmed, the country's prime minister Leo Varadkar said it marked "the day Ireland stepped out from under the last of our shadows and into the light". ....,....

yes well done ireland. but my favourite part of this vote is watching those who so vociferously have been condemning the brexit ref as not being democratic or refs in general being undemocratic applauding this one.fatbob5 wrote:The result in Ireland's historic referendum on relaxing abortion laws has been a "resounding" yes.

It seems what is more important to some people is that the ref is good if it goes their way and not if it doesn't.
The biggest hypocrite of all, after Ickle owen jones of courses, is Leo Varadkar who champions this vote as the democratic right of the people whilst trying to suppress our democratic right with the brexit vote.

I am not sure that the celebrations and parties were in good taste for what is essentially a vote to kill unborn children.
Again I should stress it is and should always be up to a woman what grows in her body.

Hi. I don't normally bother with Irish politics, it's all a bit mad. But this referendum was treated like a national election, streets adorned with Yes and No posters, inundated with propaganda from both sides.
I guessed the outcome would be a high yes vote. Only in rural areas were they staunchly against it. I suppose it's an age thing. Much like in most western countries the kids are brainwashed by liberal educators in current thinking, so they vote as they've been taught is the right thing to do.
I wanted a No result but hey ho that's life - or not life I should say.

How much is the vote a consequence of the declining influence of the Catholic Church ?Tess wrote:Hi. I don't normally bother with Irish politics, it's all a bit mad.
