Craig Carth, 27, denied any knowledge of how the girl became so ill - but was found guilty of GBH by a jury
Brute: The girl's mother dialled 999 after the child became ill and started vomiting
A brutal thug who punched a four-year-old girl so hard she spent several days fighting for life in hospital has been jailed for 13 years.
Craig Carth, 27, from South West London, was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm at the end of a three-week trial at Kingston Crown Court.
The victim was rushed to St George's Hospital in Tooting after her mother called 999 reporting that the child had been unwell and vomiting in March last year.
During surgery, she was found to have two holes in the front wall of the intestine.
An investigation established the girl's injury was a result of a blow to the abdomen, and the attack had happened within the last 48 hours.
Following surgery, the child remained in intensive care for several days. She has since made a full recovery.
Two men and two women were arrested in connection with the investigation and bailed to return pending further enquiries. All denied any knowledge of how the child could have been injured.
Craig Carth was arrested and charged and found guilty following a trial on 24 October.
Detective Sergeant Tariq Farooqi, of Wandsworth Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: "This is a substantial sentence and I am pleased that Carth will now be in prison for a significant amount of time. I'm glad that the weight of evidence helped the jury come to a unanimous finding of guilt against Carth.
"Had it not been for the excellence of the consultant paediatric surgeon and staff at St George's Hospital, this young girl may well have died. Thankfully she has made a full recovery.
"Officers from the Child Abuse Investigation Team conducted a thorough investigation, dealing with a very young, vulnerable child. We will continue to investigate every allegation of child abuse professionally in order to bring this type of dangerous offender to justice."
Three other defendants were found not guilty of causing or allowing the serious harm of a young child.

Pedrito Domingos, 20, of Cow Bridge Lane, Barking, walked into the restaurant and slashed the victim in front of families enjoying meals at the branch in The Brewery, Romford.
Snaresbrook Crown Court heard Domingos walked up to the 20-year-old man who was dining with two friends and stabbed him several times with a large knife on October 29.
Officers discovered his car parked close to the scene and recovered a cardboard sheath, similar in size to the recovered knife.
They also found he was in possession of 14 wraps of cocaine while he was detained in custody.
Domingos was sentenced to 10 years in prison following a court hearing today.
Possession with intent to supply Class A drugs was left to lie on file.
Acting Detective Chief Inspector, Denise Johnson, said: "This was a horrific pre-meditated attack in a busy restaurant with numerous families with young children present.
“I can only hope that residents of Havering are reassured now that this dangerous man has been removed from their streets.
“Attacks of this nature are thankfully very rare in Havering and our officers' swift response to this incident demonstrates how seriously we take this type of crime.

Man jailed for sex with underage girl
'Sadiq exhibited all the classic characteristics of someone who grooms young people for sex' - police
Ansar Sadiq from Rochdale has been jailed for grooming and having sex with an underage girl.
A Falinge man has been jailed for grooming and having sex with an underage girl.
Ansar Sadiq , 28, was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a child at Minshull Street Crown Court on Friday.
The court heard that during the summer of 2012, the victim met a man she knew as ‘Kash’ – Sadiq - through a mutual friend.
Over six weeks the victim and two friends would spend time at Sadiq’s flat in Mitchell Hey, Falinge where they would drink vodka bought for them by Sadiq.
The girls described how Sadiq would keep the door of the flat locked, even when he went out and left the girls inside .
On several occasions the girls would sleep over at the flat, pretending to their parents that they were sleeping over at another girl’s house.
The court heard it was during these nights that Sadiq had sex with the victim on several occasions.
Sadiq was jailed for 43 months, was given a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and was forced to sign the Sex Offenders Register.
Detective Constable Ben Harris said: “Sadiq exhibited all the classic characteristics of someone who grooms young people for sex.
“He flattered the victim, bought her alcohol and allowed her to live a lifestyle that her parents would never have allowed, in order to trick her into letting her guard down.
“He was fully aware of how old she was, he knew the girls were on school holidays and that she was under age, but he could not have cared less.
“I would like to commend the bravery of this girl, for her to come forward, disclose and relive the assaults that he committed against her must have been extremely hard.
“I hope now that this sentence goes some way to helping her to resolve what has been an exceptionally difficult time, and that now she and her parents can start rebuilding their lives.”

Jhan Zaib fleeced £17,351 from the system by claiming he was an unemployed single dad on the breadline. In reality, the father-of-three was married and had a regular job at an Oldham tyre firm.
Investigators from the Department of Work and Pensions learned that Zaib was sending the money abroad using electronic money transfer services. He claimed following his arrest that the money was used to pay his brother’s gambling debts after his parents came under pressure from gangsters in Pakistan.
Zaib, who owns his own home at Stafford Street, Oldham, was spared jail after a Manchester Crown Court judge said locking him away for a short period of time would not benefit the public.
The 37-year-old, who has no previous convictions, has so far paid back £1,600 of the money he took and would have been entitled to some benefits legitimately if he had come clean.
The court also heard Zaib’s claims for council tax, housing benefit and income support were genuine at the beginning.
When Zaib first started claiming in 2008, his marriage had broken down, he was out of work and looking after his daughter.
But he failed to tell the authorities when he remarried months later and got a job, going on to have two more children.
When his accounts were investigated by the DWP last year, they found he was getting wages from Hollinwood Tyre and Exhaust Centre and that he had been cheating the system for four and a half years.
He went on to admit failing to disclose a change in circumstances.
Had Zaib not pleaded guilty, he could have been given six months in jail.
But with the significant discount for his guilty plea, the judge concluded it wasn’t worth locking him away. Ordering him to serve a four-month sentence, suspended for a year, with 200 hours of unpaid work.
Judge Martin Rudland said: “It doesn’t seem to me, having regard to your age, circumstances and previous good character, that the public interest is served by you immediately losing your liberty.”
Roy Paul, of the DWP, said: “Cases like this cost the hardworking taxpayer money that should be used to help those who need it most. We’ll continue to work with Greater Manchester Police to stamp out benefit fraud and bring those who break the law to justice.”

Kamran Butt, top, and Instar Ahmed oversaw a scam to help criminals hide fortunes
Two men who laundered millions of pounds for organised crime groups have been ordered to pay back more than £190,000.
Kamran Butt, 48, and Instar Ahmed, 56, oversaw a complex scam to help gangs from around the world hide their illegal fortunes.
They were jailed in January at Manchester Crown Court where it was revealed that their scam allowed some £21m to be laundered.
Butt, Great Stone Street, Stretford, and Ahmed, of Kelstern Square, Longsight, have now been ordered to pay £182,693 and £11,021 respectively from their own ill-gotten gains.
The conspiracy unmasked by the Greater Manchester Police Money Laundering Unit showed the duo and two others, who received suspended jail sentences, received vast sums of cash from criminal networks.
In a three-week period during the summer of 2011, Butt alone helped launder some £2m in criminal cash.
Commenting on the results of this week’s confiscation hearing, Det Con Mark Chesters said: “This was an extremely complicated and difficult investigation to crack, but I am delighted that thanks to the perseverance and tenacity of everyone who worked on the job, not only have these men been convicted but they also won’t see a penny of the money they made.

[*] Manchester Crown Court
Spared jail, mum who helped fraudster boyfriend dupe the taxman out of £1.2m
Mother-of-five Shabana Asim, from Rochdale, is handed suspended sentence at Manchester Crown Court for assisting VAT scam by Mubashir Alam
Shabana Asim
A mum-of-five who helped her fraudster boyfriend dupe the taxman into paying him a fortune has been spared jail.
As reported in the M.E.N. last month, Mubashir Alam - who also uses the name Mubbashir Ali - masterminded tax frauds which attempted to cheat £1.25m in VAT refunds.
His girlfriend, Shabana Asim has now been sentenced for fronting two of the businesses he used to cheat the system on an industrial scale.
Tax rules allow firms to reclaim VAT paid on goods and services they have bought for business use.
In order to scam huge sums, Alam, from Rochdale, registered company names and claimed to have spent a fortune on goods like sewing machines and material for the manufacture of children’s clothes and womenswear.
In reality the companies Alam, 39, set up were not making anything - but by faking invoices he duped the taxman into refunding VAT on goods he hadn’t bought.
Mubashir Alam
Convicted heroin dealer Alam began the fraud within weeks of leaving jail for another offence in 2007.
While in prison, he prepared for the scam by reading hundreds of books on business.
By 2010, he was under investigation for cheating £685,000 from the public purse.
Undeterred, he moved his operation to County Durham, where he set up new businesses which netted £140,000 in false refund claims, using his then-girlfriend Asim, 45, as a front.
Asim helped Alam secure premises for two of these bogus businesses in the north east, was named as a director, and signed cheques for the purposes of the fraud.
Manchester Crown Court heard that at first she believed the businesses were genuine, but carried on helping Alam when she realised what he was really up to, until her arrest in 2013.
Her lawyer told the court that Alam ‘took advantage’ of Asim, a single mum with no previous convictions.
Gemma Caffrey
Judge Martin Rudland, sentencing, concluded Asim, of Bentmeadows, Rochdale, had been much less involved than Gemma Caffrey, 33, who helped Alam between 2007 and 2010.
Caffrey, who had previous convictions for dishonesty, was jailed for six months last month.
Sentencing Asim, who admitted cheating the revenue, to six months suspended for two years, Judge Rudland said: “(Alam) seems to have used both of you - Caffrey and yourself - to assist in the preparation of a complex and sophisticated fraud.
"You were both at various times in a relationship with him, so he was able to assume some control over you.”
Alam was jailed for five years after admitting cheating the public revenue and furnishing false returns.

Billal Baig (left) and Joesph Salmon have been jailed after £6.5m of heroin was seized
Two men have been jailed after police seized one of the largest single hauls of drugs in the force’s history.
Heroin with a street value of £6.5m at a purity of more than 60 per cent was found hidden inside a plastic, laundry-style bag in a private hire taxi.
The drugs were destined to be sold on the streets of Greater Manchester but the operation was foiled after officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit stopped the taxi, a Mercedes E270, in Mere, near Knutsford.
The discovery led police to Joseph Salmon, 37, and Billal Baig, 32, who both appeared before Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court.
Salmon, of no fixed address, admitted possessing heroin with intent to supply and was jailed for eight years.
Baig, of White Lodge Close, Isleworth, West London, was found guilty after a trial of being concerned with the supply of heroin and jailed for 11 years.
Det Insp Lee Griffin, of GMP, said: “This is one of the single biggest recoveries of drugs in the force’s history.
"To prevent such vast quantities of drugs, worth millions of pounds, from flooding the streets, is a massive achievement.
“In one swoop we put a huge hole in the drugs supply market and the sentence reflects great team work from specialist units across the force.”
The taxi was stopped in May and police found 22 wrapped parcels of heroin in the bag.
Salmon, who was inside the taxi, and the taxi driver - who was later released without charge - were both arrested.
The taxi driver - who lives in London - told police how his friend, later identified as Baig, had asked him to take a fare from Abbey Road Studios in London to Manchester and back.
Forensic examination of the driver’s phone uncovered messages between him and Baig.
The driver complained that the £400 fare was insufficient and Baig told him that he would sort an extra payment from the ‘main man’, suggesting the pick-up was orchestrated by another person.
Baig was arrested weeks later with support from the Metropolitan Police, following numerous enquiries to identify and locate him. He told police he asked the driver to take Salmon on behalf of another person who he did not know the name of.
Det Insp Griffin added: “Both Baig and Salmon have failed to provide any proper account or explanation for their actions and while work is ongoing to fully understand who else is might have been involved at either end - in London or Manchester - they have been given long prison sentences.
“Put simply we have halted hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of individual street deals from taking place.”

Three teenagers have been jailed for a "wicked and unnecessary" axe and knife attack on a drunk man.
Handyman Paul Thrower died after two 18-year-olds hit him with a 4ft (1.2m) long axe and stabbed him 10 times in the back on a west London estate.
Zakariya Subeir and Kiro Halliburton said they acted in self defence when Mr Thrower smashed a glass partition they were hiding behind.
He was chasing them after being angered by their treatment of his girlfriend.
The attack happened near his home in St Dunstan's Close, Hayes, on 20 February.
Paul Thrower 'being bullied' on the estate
The court heard the victim had been drinking and became very angry when his girlfriend Geraldine Roberts told him the youths swore, spat and threw a drink at her earlier that day.
Halliburton and Subeir shut themselves in a bin chute when Mr Thrower, 46, chased them.
They were handed an axe in a shed and Mahdi Osman, also 18, passed it to Subeir. Osman said he handed it to them so they could protect themselves rather than attack Mr Thrower.
When Mr Thrower broke the glass partition, Subeir hit him twice on the head and once on the shoulder with the axe while Halliburton stabbed him repeatedly in the back with a knife before delivering the fatal wound to the heart.
Following a trial at the Old Bailey, Halliburton, of Tollgate Drive, Hayes, was found guilty of murder and jailed for a minimum of 16 years.
Subeir, from Rockingham Road, Uxbridge, and Osman from Hoskins Close, Hayes, were found not guilty of murder but convicted of manslaughter.
Subeir was sentenced to eight years in a young offenders' institution with an extended licence period of a further four years, and Osman to five-and-a-half years for his lesser role.
A 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was cleared of involvement in the killing.
'Resort of a coward'
Judge John Bevan told Halliburton that he accepted Mr Thrower's behaviour was outlandish, and "inflammatory, drunken and pathetic" but he was provoked by the three of them.
"This was a wicked and unnecessary crime - a ranting, inebriate being no match for a knife and axe being wielded by young and fit teenagers."
"The carrying of knives has become endemic among some teenagers in parts of London and it is assumed to aid power and respect to the carrier. That is a delusion. It is the resort of a coward.
"You are a dangerous young man, aggressive when carrying a knife and lacked the courage to tell anything like the truth about this."
The court heard that Halliburton had two previous convictions for possessing a knife or bladed weapon in 2012.
Mr Thrower's sister Dawn said in a victim impact statement that the father of one was "being bullied and victimised and he was doing his best and it got on top of him".
Investigating officer Det Insp Simon Deefholts said: "I am pleased the jury have today convicted not only the two directly involved in the shocking attack on Mr Thrower but also the youth who helped arm them."

Abdul Ghafoor, 33, dragged the young woman into bushes and raped her for three hours
An Asian father-of-four dragged a young pub worker off the street and raped her for three hours saying 'you white women are good at it'.
The woman, who is in her 20s, was walking home from work in Bedford at around 11pm when she was grabbed by Abdul Ghafoor, 33, and forced her into undergrowth, a court heard.
Ghafoor had drunk five rum drinks when he came up behind her and bundled her into the bushes where he began sexually assaulting her in an attack that lasted from 11.25pm until 2.45am.
The victim had sent a WhatsApp message to her sister when she left work on May 30 this year to say she was walking to their flat.
But the married father-of-four, who had earlier propositioned two other white woman, demanded that the woman perform a sex act on him saying 'you white girls are good at it'.
She was able to send a second message to her sister saying 'help me' before he smashed her phone.
At one point she managed to make a run for it when Ghafoor vomited as a result of the alcoholic drinks he had downed, but he caught her and took her back into the undergrowth.
Her sister had raised the alarm and the victim heard the police helicopter overhead as a major search was launched to find her.
Eventually Ghafoor allowed her to get dressed and walked out on to the the road with her saying she should accompany him into town, but they were seen by police inspector, Jamie Longwith.
She got into the officer's car while Ghafoor made an attempt to escape but was caught.

A businessman who used profits from laundering millions of pounds for criminals and conned financial institutions to fund a property portfolio and buy a fleet of luxury sports cars has been jailed for six years.
Aqeel Khan acted as a go-to man for criminals across the north of England and was jailed at Leeds Crown Court today after admitting money laundering, possessing a forged bank document and contempt of court.
The National Crime Agency said the 38-year-old, from Bradford, used cash from money laundering and defrauding financial institutions to fund his property investments, including the Old Bus Depot - a well-known Bradford landmark - which he bought for £2.5 million in 2011.

In total, Khan's network had £10 million of property assets, the agency said. The money used to buy the properties had been laundered through multiple bank accounts to try and conceal its source.
Khan and his employee Mohammed Zulqurnain used insurance brokers as fronts for their criminal enterprise, obtaining finance from legitimate financial institutions for non-existent or vastly inflated insurance policies.

Police found almost £100,000 that was contaminated with drugs in a cupboard at the home of Ajib Khan
Zulqurnain, 36, today admitted money laundering and fraud and was sentenced to two-and-a-half years jail. He was sentenced along with two other men who were also from Bradford.
Organised criminals need people who can launder their cash to make it look legitimate and this group provided that service on an industrial scale
Khan's brother, Atique Anwar Khan, 34, who controlled and coordinated the distribution of cash into third party bank accounts, was given a six month suspended prison sentence.
Another associate, Ajib Khan, 34, who was previously convicted of supplying class A drugs, also admitted laundering money into property. He was given a two year suspended sentence.
The NCA said almost £100,000 of cash contaminated with drugs was seized from Ajib's home.
NCA branch commander David Norris said Khan had 'presented himself' as a successful and wealthy businessman, when in reality he was the head of a 'large-scale, sophisticated money laundering operation'.
Mr Morris said criminal groups relied on people like Khan.
He said: 'Organised criminals need people who can launder their cash to make it look legitimate and this group provided that service on an industrial scale.

A married couple have been jailed for a total of 19 years for laundering £145million of dirty money through their family-run bureau de change.
Moothathamby Sriskantharajah, 59, and his wife Thilageswary, 48, ran what seemed to be a legitimate currency exchange but were in fact cleaning money for dangerous criminal gangs.
The couple stashed hundreds of thousands of pounds in safe deposit boxes at luxury store Harrods and used two sisters, unrelated to them, to transport the illicit cash.

Married couple Moothathamby (left) and Thilageswary (right) Sriskantharajah have been jailed for a total of 19 years for laundering £145MILLION of dirty money through their family-run bureau de change
The fraudulent four were jailed on Thursday last week at Southwark Crown Court for money laundering after an investigation by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
The Sriskantharajahs ran London stores Universal Money Exchange and Buckingham Money Exchange, with three sites across the capital including one on Oxford Street.
They took cash from organised gangs and transferred it into euros believing the authorities couldn't then trace the dirty money.

Amitab Ali
Fraudsters who used other people’s credit card details to fund their lifestyle have been brought to justice.
Victoria Ahmed, 26, and Amitab Ali, 30, both from Rochdale, paid for hotel rooms and meals and even bought a car during the £25,000 scam.
Between September 2011 and March 2012, the pair used other people’s card details, which had been texted to them, to buy goods online and over the phone.
They paid for car insurance and parts, and their accomplice Jade Wasley agreed to have the items delivered to her house for a fee.
Over six months, Ahmed and Ali also hired cars, bought a Honda car from a salesman, stayed in hotel rooms, bought food and drink, paid for taxi fares and Ahmed’s home phone bill.
In total, over £22,000 was spent on other people’s credit cards.
In November 2011, Ahmed, Ali and a second man Tariq Mohammed, 34, defrauded an insurance company out of £3,367 during a ‘crash for cash’ insurance fraud.
Ahmed claimed her Lexus had been involved in an accident, and both Ahmed and Ali, who claimed to be the person who crashed into the Lexus, contacted the insurance company and they paid her £1,710 for the damage.
Mohammed claimed that the car was being stored at his business in Rochdale and provided her with a hire car. He charged the insurance company £1,657 for his ‘services’.
Ahmed, of Jarvis Street, Rochdale, and Ali, of Brimrod Lane, Rochdale, both near the town centre, earlier pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud and fraud by false representation. Ahmed received an 18-week custodial sentence, suspended for two years, and was ordered to carry out 150 hours’ unpaid work, while Ali was jailed for a year.
Tariq Mohammed, of John Roberts Close, Rochdale, pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation and was given a four-month custodial sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to carry out 200 hours’ unpaid work.
Jade Wasley, 25, of Thomas Street, Littleborough, Rochdale, pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation and received a 12-month community order. All four were sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday.
PC Andrew Butcher, from GMP’s Fraud Investigation Team, said: “Both Ali and Ahmed spent thousands, living the lifestyle they thought they deserved, using other people’s credit card details.
"They were found out when they were arrested and whilst searching their house car parts were delivered that they had bought using other people’s credit cards. They believed they could get more money out of defrauding an insurance company by claiming Ahmed had been involved in a car crash.
“Following our investigation, we discovered paperwork that proved her car had actually been impounded in West Yorkshire during the period she said the vehicle had been involved in the ‘accident’. This also proved Mohammed was involved as he sent an invoice to the insurance company charging them for keeping the car and providing a new one to Ahmed.”

A man has been jailed for nine years for dragging a woman off the street and raping her in the back of a vehicle ten years ago.
The victim, who was in her 30s, was attacked while walking on Raglan Street, Lowestoft, in January 2005.
Fokrul Islam, 38, from Nevendon Road, Wickford in Essex was found guilty of rape last year at Ipswich Crown Court.
Suffolk Police said the woman reported the attack at the time and this helped secure DNA evidence.
Islam was arrested after he was stopped by the UK Border Agency while travelling from Belfast to Liverpool last year.
Det Con Darren Winchester, from Suffolk Police, said: "Islam's DNA was taken when he was stopped by the UKBA in March 2014 and from that he was identified as a suspect after his DNA matched that taken from the victim in 2005.
"The victim showed immense courage by reporting the rape very quickly and that ensured police were able to secure vital evidence."

Three men were today jailed for more than 30 years over the killing of a young entrepreneur who died after being stabbed close to a McDonald’s restaurant.
Lance Sloley, 23; Jordache Smith-Challis, 20; and Shyheim Green 20, were jailed at the Old Bailey today over the death of father-of-one Afyon Saint-Hilaire.
The 22-year-old privately-educated entrepreneur was stabbed in a robbery which escalated into a fight in Coniston Road, Downham on the evening of July 13.
He tried to drive himself home following the attack but crashed and was found by paramedics, who pronounced him dead an hour later.
Sloley, Smith-Challis and Green denied manslaughter but were convicted after a trial.
The court heard Sloley, Smith-Challis and Green went into the fast food restaurant for a short time before leaving and driving towards Coniston Road.
They met two other men - Marcus El-Alfy, 18, of Vincent Close, Bromley, and Vishal Deowram, 18 - before a fight broke out between the group and Mr Saint-Hilaire and his friend, Mickyle Bromfield.
Mr Saint-Hilaire was stabbed twice in the leg in front of "terrified witnesses", Scotland Yard said.
Sloley, Smith-Challis and Green fled the scene in their car and drove towards Bromley Hill, while El-Alfy and Deowram travelled in the same direction in a separate car.
Sloley, Broughton Road, Thornton Heath; and Green, of Joshua Close, Croydon; were both today jailed for 12 years for manslaughter and eight years for conspiracy to rob, to run concurrently.
Smith-Challis, of Bexhill Road, Brighton was jailed for 11 years for manslaughter and seven years for conspiracy to rob, also to run concurrently.
El-Alfy, of Vincent Close, Bromley, and Deowram, of Wharfedale Gardens, Thornton Heath - were subsequently cleared of all charges.
Commenting on the sentencings today, Detective Inspector Richard Leonard, of the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “This was a case of robbery that went very wrong and ended with the death of a young man in front of horrified onlookers.
"I am pleased that the jury has found these men guilty and will no doubt be given lengthy sentences to reflect the role that they played.”

Travel Fagan
A brutal who punched girls as young as 13 in TEN violent robberies was snared by mobile phone tracking.
Traval Fagan attacked females walking in isolated spots on or around the Fallowfield Loop, the cycle track which runs from Chorlton to Gorton. He was captured after police concerned by the spate of robberies launched an investigation across two GMP divisions, and he has now been jailed for six years and four months.
Most of Fagan’s victims were young girls or women walking in dimly-lit areas on their own, Prosecutor Henry Blackshaw told Manchester Crown Court.
The robber sneaked up on victims on a mountain bike, ran at them, grabbed them by the throats, and punched them in the face when they fought back or held onto their handbags and phones.
He was caught after he targeted visiting opera singer Janet Fischer, then 31. She bit him during a frenzied tussle in an alleyway off Brookfield Avenue, Chorlton, and his DNA was found on a glove he left at the scene.
Fagan, 22, who stood trial for similar robberies two years ago and was cleared, denied the Chorlton offence when confronted by police. But because mobile phones register at masts as their users travel past, officers were able to trace his movements from his Caythorpe Street, Moss Side home to the scene of the Chorlton robbery and a string of others.
He went on to admit ten robbery charges between October 2013 and January last year.
The victims included a 13-year-old girl who was grabbed around the neck in Debdale Park as she was robbed with her 15-year-old friend, and a 21-year-old student who was pulled to the ground in Ladybarn, Fallowfield.
Two 14-year-old girls, one of whom was punched in the eye, and a 13-year-old girl were robbed in North Reddish Park, Gorton. A 15 year-old girl and her 17-year-old friend were gripped in a bear hug in Debdale Park in a robbery in which the 17-year-old was punched, and a 22-year-old nurse was grabbed round the throat near Monica Grove, Burnage.
At one stage Fagan was suspected of up to 27 robberies, but the others could not be proven and were not pursued with.
Max Saffman, defending, said Fagan was short of cash and living a ‘lawless lifestyle’ at the time.
Judge David Hernandez, sentencing, told Fagan his offences, which left victims bruised, traumatised and missing items of sentinmental and financial value, were ‘squalid’ and inexcusable, adding: “This was a disturbing catalogue of offences - what you did was prey on vulnerable girls and women. Force was used, punching, grabbing round the throat, wrestling with the women and the girls.”

A gang of fraudsters have been jailed for a credit card scam thought to be worth more than £2m.
Eight men were sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court, in Manchester, today for their roles in the racket, in which they are believed to have targeted more than 2,000 businesses.
The gang used stolen or compromised credit cards to fraudulently order more than £600,000 worth of goods from 57 companies across the UK, a probe by GMP’s fraud investigation team uncovered.
But officers believe that sum is the tip of the iceberg, with phone records suggesting they contacted more than 2,000 potential victims and couriers.
It is believed the actual losses could amount to more than £2m.
Detective Sergeant Phil Larratt said: “This gang were involved in a concerted, full-time operation to defraud companies out of thousands of pounds worth of goods.
“It is clear from the sheer scale of the evidence we recovered that these men thought they had an unearthed a goldmine and had no intention of slowing down or stopping. I have no doubt they’d still be trying to con businesses out of thousands of pounds today had we not caught them.”
Six men from Rochdale all admitted conspiracy to defraud.
Ammar Khalid, 27, of Elder Street, was jailed for four years, while Irfan Khan, 26, of King Street South, and Ahmed Sohail Pasha, 27, of Milkstone Road, were locked up for three years and four months each.
Hamza Mughal, 26, of Surma Close, and Faraz Malik, 28, were both sent down for two years, and Shazad Arshad, 20, of Anne Linne Close, was sentenced to 18 months in a young offender institution.
Aqeel Malik, 28, of Bertha Road, Rochdale, pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods and was sentenced to a year in prison, suspended for 12 months.
Mohammed Sohail Khan, 26, of Queen’s Road, Oldham, was convicted of handling stolen goods and sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for a year.
Both men were also handed a nine-month supervision order ordered to carry out 200 hours’ unpaid work.
The court heard that the gang used the stolen credit card details to order goods from businesses over the phone between June 2011 and November 2012.
The items, which ranged from cars and fridges, to dog food and alcohol, were then delivered to locations across Rochdale by private couriers before being sold on by the gang to pre-arranged buyers.
The companies only discovered they had been defrauded weeks later when the true account holders reported the unusual transactions to their banks.
The funds were then recovered from the companies’ accounts, leaving them at a loss.
Counterfeit cards, an embossing handle used to print card numbers onto them and software to write details onto their magnetic strips were all seized as part of the investigation.
Two more defendants are to be sentenced on February 2 for handling stolen goods.
Det Sgt Larratt said: “This was this gang’s full-time occupation. The group operated as a business with a clear hierarchy and structure.
"Ammar Khalid, Irfan Khan and Ahmed Sohail Pasha directed operations from the comfort of their own homes, accessing the dark web and placing orders using the compromised card details.
“In times of austerity, these businesses lost tens of thousands of pounds thanks to the underhand tactics of this gang and potentially could have faced financial ruin.
“However, thanks to the work and dedication of the officers from the Fraud Investigation Unit we were able to unravel their web of deception and they have now been exposed so that no other businesses can be targeted by this gang. We carried out a painstaking investigation involving meticulous examination of financial and phone records and I am delighted all that work has paid off.”
Anyone who thinks they may have fallen victim to similar scams is urged to contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
