A gang who posted parcels of heroin worth almost £1m from Pakistan to Oldham have been jailed.
Officers at UK Border Agency intercepted the parcels containing drugs worth nearly £900,000 and alerted police.
All the drugs were imported from Pakistan to addresses in Oldham and Burnley before being cut with other substances, distributed to dealers, and sold across Greater Manchester.
In total the gang are believed to have moved £860,000 worth of heroin and £8,000 worth of crack cocaine.
Mobile phone records and forensic evidence were used to link the members of the gang, from its leader Abu Bakar to dealers on the streets - despite them never meeting.
Detectives at GMP’s Oldham Organised Crime Unit first received intelligence about the group in August 2013 and spent over a year piecing the case together to bring down the gang, who used aliases and couriers.
Today at Minshull Street Crown Court, six members were jailed for their part in the crime after pleading guilty at previous hearings.
Abu Bakar, 27, of Cotton Mill Crescent, pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to import heroin and was jailed for 11 years, eight months.
Mohammed Hakim, 19, of Links Way, Oldham, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import and conspiracy to supply heroin and crack cocaine.
He was jailed for nine years.
Sabbir Rahman, 18, of Hythe Walk, Oldham, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import and supply heroin and was jailed for three years.
Shahidul Hoque, 18, of Garforth Street, Oldham, pleaded guilty to five counts of possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin and was jailed for three years.
Behzad Ali, 28, of Belvedere Road, Burnley, also pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to import and supply heroin and was jailed for eight years.
Kamran Khan, 19, of Laxey Close, Oldham, pleaded guilty to posession with intent to supply heroin and was jailed for six and a half years.

The sub machine gun found at the home of Mudasor Malik
A hitman's kit was recovered from a nightclub bouncer’s home.
Mudasor Malik hoarded an Uzi sub-machine gun, a Browning pistol, two silencers and seventy bullets for gangsters, Manchester Crown Court heard.
The 30-year-old - who has now been jailed for five years for firearms offences - blamed his powerful build for getting him into trouble.
Malik’s lawyer told court he was committed to charity work and his family.
But he claimed ‘sinister’ types were attracted to him because he was powerfully-built and worked on doors around the region.
Malik said that after he turned away gangsters who tried to lure him into a robbery plot, a shot was fired at his Moss Side home.
Unable to fight his tormentors off after two debilitating car accidents, he agreed to store a deadly arsenal for them.
The haul of weapons was a chance find for police, who searched his Grierson Road home while investigating another matter.
Officers also recovered found about £600 worth of cannabis, and small amounts of cocaine and MDMA.
Malik went on to admit possessing prohibited weapons and ammunition, possessing cannabis with intent to supply, and possessing class A drugs.
Andrew Mackintosh, prosecuting, told the court the weaponry was found behind a shoe rack in a store cupboard at Malik’s flat in April 2013.
He was out at the time and arrested on his return to the property. On his phone police found footage of a cannabis farm, an app on growing the drug, and a downloaded ‘encyclopedia of guns’.
In interview he admitted that the guns were ‘gangsters’ weapons’.
“These are, as the defendant admits, effectively two professional firearms kits involving extremely dangerous weapons with silencers and live ammunition”, Mr Mackintosh added.
Defending Malik, who has no previous convictions, Max Saffman said: “By and large he led a law-abiding lifestyle, but since 2013 accepts that because of where he lives, because he works on doors, because he is a well-built man, he often came to the attention of people more sinister-minded than he was.
"Following two road traffic accidents he was considerably disabled for many months in 2013.
"At this point he was approached by two males who wanted to recruit him - they believed he had contacts who could help them with robberies they wanted to do.
"Had he been fit and healthy he would have told them where to go, but feeling somewhat vulnerable, he allowed himself to be bullied by these people.”

Matloob Hussain, 41, from Sparkhill, jailed for three years seven months, after he was caught dealing drugs in a hotel car park
A RESTAURANT boss who turned to dealing drugs to fund a cocaine habit has been jailed for over three years.
Matloob Hussain, aged 41, was arrested by cops on the car park of The Birmingham Hotel in Sparkbrook after a tip-off.
They found the dad-of-three, who owns a family restaurant called Indiano’s in Station Road, Acocks Green, in the passenger seat of a Mercedes with nearly 11.5g of cocaine, a small amount of cannabis and £530 in cash.
Birmingham Crown Court heard Hussain was selling the Class A drugs on the streets to feed his own cocaine habit.
He pleaded guilty on the day of his trial to possession with intent tu supply Class A drugs and possession of cannabis.
Jailing him for three years and seven months, His Honour Judge Richard Bond said Hussain, of Ivor Road, Sparkhill, should know the dangers of the drug, having been a long-term user.
The judge said: “I accept the submission that you are a user yourself.
“That means the dangers of Class A drugs are well known to you, that it ruins people’s lives.”
Judge Bond went on he had to consider the impact of drugs on the families and friends of users, including Hussain’s family.
He added: “The second is affect is (drug use) results in more crime being committed.
“Day in day out judges in this court have to deal with burglars and robbers who committed crime to feed their habits.
“You also had £520 in cash and that demonstrates to me the amount of drug dealing you had done that day.”
Amy Jacobs, prosecuting, said Hussain was seen on the car park of the hotel at around 8.20pm on April 30 2013.
He was sitting in the passenger seat of his own car while another man was in the driver’s seat and another in the back.
When approached by police she said Hussain was seen to be “fidgety” and putting his hands down the back of his seat.
Following a search cops found the wraps of cocaine and cash.
Ayoub Khan, defending, said Hussain had begun taking drugs again because the family business he runs with his wife had been struggling.
He said: “This was drug dealing in order to obtain drugs for his personal use.
“The defendant’s vulnerability was exploited and he is remorseful.”
He added Hussain also cared for his 63-year-old mother.
“There is a great impact that could put his wife and his mother out of this business and he can only blame himself for that.”

Andre Bright guilty of murdering mother-of-one Victoria Adams at her home while baby slept upstairs
Bright, 30, stabbed Victoria Adams in the chest and abdomen after returning to her home on Springwood Hall Close, Oldham, in December 2013
Victoria Adams was stabbed to death at her home in Oldham. Andre Bright has been convicted of her murder
A violent and abusive love rat has been found guilty of murdering the mother of one of his children by stabbing her to death after a drink and drugs binge.
Andre Bright, 30, stabbed Victoria Adams in the chest and abdomen after returning to her home on Springwood Hall Close, Oldham, in December 2013. Their four-month-old daughter Aminah was sleeping upstairs.
Bright then taunted police who Tasered him after arriving to find the mum-of-one fighting for her life in a pool of blood.
He told officers “I enjoyed that, you need more volts in your Taser”.
The dad-of-four showed no emotion as the verdict was read out at Manchester Crown Court. It took the jury just over fours hours to reach a unanimous guilty verdict.
Dressed in a grey jumper he stared straight ahead while members of Victoria’s family and friends screamed with joy and relief. He will be sentenced later today.
VIEW GALLERY
Bright had a long history of violence - including a conviction for kicking, punching and spitting at a pregnant partner in 2007.
Victoria had told friends she feared Bright was ‘going to kill her’ as she fled her home when he threw a WKD bottle at her just two days before her murder.
Miss Adams’ friend Kerry Brennan told the court the mum-of-one had stolen £1,500 in cash from Bright after the attack as punishment for his behaviour and lack of contribution towards their daughter.
Bright maintained he didn’t realise this until after his arrest. He kept their casual relationship a secret from his wife - who he married in a Muslim ceremony in 2009.
When Victoria told him she was pregnant with his child he only replied ‘delete my number’.
The court heard Bright was having sex with several different partners and regarded himself as a ‘player’.
Bright said he had been mentally unstable in the months leading up to the incident and had started a blaze after letting of a firework in house weeks earlier as he felt people were ‘coming to get him’.
He told the court he frequently picked up knives as he felt feelings of paranoia.
He claimed he was holding the knife and running around the house when he and Victoria ran into each other.
In his evidence, Dr Charles Wilson told Manchester Crown Court ‘common sense would say this wouldn’t happen twice’.
Bright was also found guilty of attacking a nightclub bouncer with an Afro comb in the hours before the murder.
He punched Matthew Wilkinson ‘eight or nine times’ outside Club 101 in Oldham town centre, after being refused entry to the venue and attempting to urinate on the doorman’s shoes.
Bright also has previous convictions for wounding with intent after stabbing two men at an Oldham nightspot in 2001 and in 2007 was convicted of GBH after shooting man in the eye with an air gun.

AN ILLEGAL immigrant who repeatedly molested a vulnerable teenager ‘used her shamefully’, a court heard.
Married father Zia Maroof Khail, 29, groomed his victim into have sex with him when she was just 13.
A judge was told how the youngster, from Blackburn, thought she and the defendant, who is from Afghanistan, were ‘boyfriend and girlfriend’ and that they were in love.

He was abusive towards her if she refused his advances, Preston Crown Court heard.
Maroof Khail, who claimed he was not aware of the ‘cultural norms’ in the UK, was given an 11-year extended sentence after being found guilty of four counts of sexual activity with a child. He will also face deportation when he is released from jail.
Judge Graham Knowles told the defendant: “I am clear that you were abusing her. She was a child. You groomed her and you used her shamefully.”
Prosecutors said the affair started when Maroof Khail, who is more than twice as old as his victim, winked at the girl in a park.
Maroof Khail, formerly of Holland Street, Blackburn, kept on approaching the youngster as she took a regular path to a relative’s home.
The first time they spoke, the paedophile stopped the girl in an alley, told her he loved her and gave her a note with his mobile number on it.
The youngster tore up the piece of paper. However she was able to remember the number, which led to them chatting on social media. Mark Lamberty, prosecuting, said Maroof Khail began following the child each week on her routine visits.
He said: “Then as part of her day, when the girl was going to school, she would visit the defendant at his home twice a week.
“She says that he was abusive to her if she refused to cooperate in sexual conduct.”
Maroof Khail also forced the teenager to have sex with him in an alleyway and at her home.
The victim’s mother, who made a statement for the court, said her daughter had been left traumatised.
Mr Lamberty said: “The mother indicates that she is angry about the whole situation. Her daughter has low self-esteem and tends to self harm.”
The allegations came to the police’s attention when the girl made a complaint about other men who she said had abused her, the court heard.
Officers said they eventually tracked Maroof Khail down after his DNA, which was found in her underwear, was matched on a database at Colnbrook Immigration Centre, at Heathrow Airport, where he was waiting to be deported.
Simon Mintz, defending, said his client’s jail term would be ‘harder to bear’ because of his lack of English. He said: “But bear it he must.”
Judge Knowles ordered Maroof Khail to spend eight years behind bars, with the remaining three years of his sentence to be spent on licence. He was made subject to notification requirements, a sexual offences prevention order and will be on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
The judge, who said the deportation would be dealt with by the appropriate authorities, said: “Finding grown men attractive or interesting is a part of growing up for teenage girls.
“They are entitled to be left alone with their thoughts, not groomed by men who want underage sex.”
Speaking after the hearing DC Madeleine Barrientos, said: “The length of the sentence passed shows the gravity of the offences on this extremely vulnerable girl. T “She is still struggling, but she has lots of support and help.”
A Home Office spokesman said: “We do not comment on individual cases. Foreign nationals who commit crimes in the UK should be in no doubt of our determination to deport them — we have removed more than 22,000 since 2010.”

Predator: Noel Anthony Reid targeted women in the City, including in Lombard Street.
2015
A predatory robber who dragged women into alleyways in a string of violent late-night muggings was today jailed.
Noel Anthony Reid, 42, sexually assaulted a lone women walking in the City in incidents in London's financial district last year.
In one mugging, he grabbed a woman by her face and stole her bag. In another, he dragged a woman into an alleyway off Lombard Street, where he sexually assaulted her before she fought him off and managed to escape.
In total he targeted six lone women - including one who was just 20 - in the Square Mile between February and July last year.
Detective Sergeant Jeremy Wilson said: "Reid is a 42 year old man, who has previously been sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison.
"He preyed on the victim’s vulnerability and went after women, all of whom were significantly smaller than him in stature.
"This type of offending is extremely rare in the City of London. Today’s sentencing is the result of a thorough investigation conducted by a number of officers.
"I would like to publicly commend the bravery of the victims in giving evidence during the trial. This conviction would not have been possible without their evidence."
Reid, of Thornton Heath, was found guilty of three counts of theft, one attempted theft, common assault, robbery and a sexual assault.
He was today sentenced at the Old Bailey to 10 years in jail and will remain on the sex offenders register for life.

Leeds sham marriage gang of four jailed
The gang were arrested minutes before the wedding was due to start
Four members of a gang that arranged a sham marriage between a Nigerian man and Slovakian woman have been jailed.
Joseph Iwueke, 33, and Ingrida Stojkova, 29, were arrested in Leeds just before the wedding was due to start last July.
The pair, along with Obinna Odelugo and Robert Stojka, all admitted a charge of conspiracy to facilitate a breach of UK immigration law at Leeds Crown Court.
The court heard how the marriage was planned so Iwueke could stay in the UK.
But investigators at the Home Office were alerted by a registrar at Leeds Register Office minutes before the sham couple were due to be married on 15 July last year.
Iwueke, of Meynell Heights, Leeds, also pleaded guilty to a fraud offence and was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison.
Stojkova, of Southend Street, Bolton, was jailed for 15 months.
British national Odelugo, 49, of Greenhaven Drive, London, and Slovakian Stojka, 48, of Higher Market Street, Bolton, were both involved in organising the sham marriage and were each handed 27-month jail terms.
The pair were also found in possession of £3,000 in cash when they were arrested at the same register office.

Abdulazizi Ali
A man who kidnapped his former partner before battering her and throwing in a car has been jailed - along with his two accomplices.
Abdulazizi Ali became ‘enraged’ when he found his ex-girlfriend in bed with another man after she had been drinking with friends at a party, a court was told.
The 30-year-old admitted to ‘losing it’, before dragging her out of the house, punching her in the face and body, and out onto the street.
He then bundled into a car, where his brother Habib Ali, 28, and friend Paul Caruana, 25, were waiting with the engine running.
Abdulazizi continued to hit his former partner and verbally berate her as brother Habib drove off. At one point, Caruana held the car door shut from the outside so the terrified woman couldn’t escape.
Manchester Crown Court heard the pair separated after a lengthy relationship and that Abdulazizi’s former partner had been ‘respectful’ of his Muslim beliefs - choosing not to drink while they were together.
But when they separated, the woman enjoyed going out with friends and began mixing with other men.
Prosecuting, Justin Heyhoe, said: “When she came out of the relationship, she did what she wanted to do. That upset him.
“Once they separated, her impression was that he didn't approve of how she was living her life and who she associated with.”
Paul Caruana and Habib Ali were jailed for false imprisonment .http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/jealous-former-boyfriend-jailed-kidnapping-8645602

Heartless carer jailed for defrauding 95-year-old woman of £35,000
- 16:08, 13 February 2015

Jaishri Patel, of Lever Edge Lane, Bolton had acted as an informal carer to the pensioner but betrayed her trust
A heartless 'carer' who defrauded a 95-year-old woman out of £35,000 has been jailed.
Jaishri Patel, 47, pleaded guilty to theft and three counts of fraud and has been jailed for two years at Bolton Crown Court.
Patel, of Lever Edge Lane, Bolton, had acted as an informal carer to the elderly pensioner, helping her out with her shopping and finances.
However over a period of time she stole a significant amount of money from the woman, by fraudulently using her debit cards, stealing the victim’s cheque book and writing cheques out to herself, and setting up a store card in her name.
Detective Constable Bernadette Miller, of the Public Protection Investigation Unit, said: “Patel took advantage of the elderly and vulnerable woman that she acted as an informal carer for.
“Patel abused the victim’s trust and used her position to steal £35,000 from her for her own selfish needs. I hope today’s sentence brings the victim some peace and she can move on with her life.
“This case shows that no matter how much you lie, justice will catch up with you eventually.”

'Sexual predator' Sulman Dar who had sex with underage girls he groomed with cigarettes and booze jailed
One of Sulman Dar's victims said she felt 'dirty and used' after her ordeal.
Sulman Dar - jailed for six and a half years.
A ‘sexual predator’ has been jailed after luring two underage girls to his home where he plied them booze and slept with them.
Sulman Dar 25, met both his victims, who were both under 16 at the time, in a park and later persuaded them to come to his home in Bolton.
On both occasions he gave them cigarettes and alcohol before having sex with them.
He then warned them not to tell anyone else what had happened.
One of his victims said she felt 'dirty and used' after her ordeal last year.
Dar has now been jailed for six and a half years.
In October 2013 - before the two offences had been reported to police - he was issued with a warning notice under Section Two of the Child Abduction Act 1984 in relation to his behaviour around children.
It was only later that his grooming of the two girls come to light.
In an impact statement read at Bolton Crown Court one of the girls said: “I’m glad I told the police what happened.
“I did it because I didn’t want it to happen to anybody else.”
Dar’s conviction was the first by The Phoenix Exit Team, a multi- agency team set up to prevent child sexual exploitation in Bolton.
Dar, of Auburn Street, Bolton, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child at an earlier hearing.
He was also given a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for ten years and ordered to sign the Sex Offender’s Register for an indefinite period as part of his sentence handed down on Friday.
Detective Sergeant Pete Astbury said: “Dar displayed all the classic hallmarks of a sexual predator and perpetrator of child sexual exploitation.
“The fact he told both girls to keep silent afterwards shows he was well aware that what he was doing was wrong but he did it anyway.
“It was certainly no easy thing for these two girls to relive what had happened, but thanks to their bravery we have convicted a sexual offender.
“I hope other young people who may be a similar situation look at this case and are encouraged that if they do come forward if they too have been coerced into sex that the Exit Team will do everything we can to bring the offender to justice, and provide support & counselling to victims, to help them through the process.”
