Mohammed Tahir Ahsraf, 46, of St James Way, Cheadle Hulme, has been jailed for two years and six months
Mohammed Tahir Ahsraf
A heartless thief who stole a disabled man’s compensation payout and spent the money on escorts and strippers has been jailed.
Mohammed Tahir Ahsraf, of St James Way, Cheadle Hulme, stole £30,000 from the victim’s bank account and pawned his sovereign rings after befriending him in his local pub.
He has been for two years and six months at Southwark Crown Court after earlier pleading guilty to seven offences of fraud by false representation, one count of false accounting and one of theft.
Ahsraf’s victim is a vulnerable adult who suffers from brain damage and schizophrenia and was left with just 72p in his bank account following the scam.
He had recently lost a leg in an accident and had received £30,000 in compensation.
Police said Ahsraf first crossed the victim’s path in 2012 after he had been released from prison for a previous high value fraud.
They got chatting at their local pub and became friends.
During the course of their friendship Ahsraf persuaded the victim to go into businesses with him, supposedly selling African hair products.
He told him they needed to invest £55,000 between them to get the company off the ground and the victim gave him access to his own Nationwide account.
Before Ahsraf got into his account he had more than £31,000 in there, however over the course of three months this was drained and he was left with just 72p.
He also took out two loans worth £7,500 each, a credit card with a limit of £2,750 and pawned his sovereign rings on four occasions totalling £2,450.
In total he stole around £50,000 from his friend.
Ashraf , 46,was caught after the victim told his father what had happened, who in turn reported it to the police.
The victim has subsequently died and police said the cause was completely unconnected to this case.
Detective Constable Andy Devonshire, of GMP’s Volume Fraud Team, said: “Ahsraf deliberately selected his victim for maximum vulnerability and fleeced him for all he’s worth.
“The way he did this was absolutely shameless and manipluative. He befriended him down the local pub and wormed his way into his life.
“He duped a man who believed that, despite all the challenges life had thrown at him, he had finally found a friend to believe in him.”

This shocking photo shows the girlfriend of a drug dealer boastfully rolling around in a pile of £20 notes - just before she was caught by police for her part in the lucrative business.
Victoria Murphy, from Manchester, posed for a photo with thousands of pounds worth of illegal drugs money which her boyfriend had made through his cocaine-dealing trade.
Minesh Patel, 30, and his brother Rakesh, 34, ran the 'professional' enterprise from a corner shop in New Moston, Manchester, where they hid £120,000 worth of drugs under the counter.

They also stashed cutting agents - which are used to dilute illicit drugs - in a Haribo sweet box.
The brothers even offered their customers a drug mail order service - described by the judge as the 'hallmark of professionalism' - which involved sending bundles of cocaine through the post after customers paid via bank transfer.
Murphy used some of the cash to pay her rent and was convicted for concealing criminal proceeds after the shop which fronted the high-purity drug business was raided in October last year by police.

Meanwhile, the brothers were jailed for a collective 11 years for masterminding the illegal set-up.
Manchester Crown Court was told how police found cocaine stashed behind the counter, while a Haribo sweets drum found in the cellar was stuffed with the anaesthetic Lidocaine, which is used to mix the drugs.
Another 1kg of cocaine was found buried under a child's bunkbed when Minesh's home in Blackley was raided.

Young mothers Nadya Kamenova, 20, and Tamenuzhka Slavcheva, 21, were recruited by sham marriage organisers using online video-chat service Skype, before being paid to marry PAKISTANI men desperate to stay in the UK. Now both women have been jailed after admitting conspiring to facilitate breach of UK immigration law.
The women were locked up alongside fake groom, Muhammed Saleem, 28, who married Slavcheva in a ceremony observed by undercover borders officials, called in by suspicious staff, at Manchester Register Office last February.
Saleem, of Osborne Street, Rochdale, paid Slavcheva £1,000 to marry him after his student visa was rescinded. Four days earlier , Saleem acted as a witness in the fake marriage of Mohammed Shahbaz to Nadya Kamenova. Mr Shahbaz, who has so far escaped arrest, is suspected of organising a number of other sham marriages. Manchester Crown Court heard that his bride Kamenova was recruited by her UK-based aunt, who is suspected of being another of the organisers, via Skype, and paid £3,400 for the job. Once over here, Kamenova helped make arrangements for her cousin Slavcheva’s arrival

Saleem Tahir pleaded guilty to two counts of kidnap and three counts of breaching a non-molestation order
A man who kidnapped two young children from a Stoke-on-Trent hotel has been jailed for three years.
Saleem Tahir took the pair from a room at the Quality Inn Hotel in Hanley in October. They were later found unharmed at a guesthouse in Derby.
Tahir, 41, of Kelso Gardens in Nottingham, had pleaded guilty to two counts of kidnap and three counts of breaching a non-molestation order.
Det Insp Glyn Pattinson welcomed the sentence at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
"Thankfully kidnaps in Staffordshire are extremely rare but if and when they do happen we respond swiftly and appropriately," he said.
"The absolute priority in such a case is the victim/s and their safety, and to reunite them with their loved ones as quickly as possible.
"For those who commit such a crime they face a prison sentence, as today's hearing has proven."

Kunal Chaudhary
A top accountant who led a double-life trafficking European sex workers into Britain has been jailed.
Kunal Chaudhary was a privately-educated, seemingly respectable senior manager at leading firm Deloitte in Manchester.
But the 32-year-old, who lived in Didsbury, was secretly part of a gang who tricked women into coming to Britain, where they were forced to have sex with up to 20 men a day.
Almost all the victims were trafficked from Hungary.
Many applied online for what they believed were administrative, cleaning and babysitting jobs.
But after their arrival in England they were forced or coerced into prostitution at brothels around London.
Chaudhary, who lived in Fog Lane, and worked at Deloitte’s Spinningfields offices in Manchester city centre, was part of a criminal ring based in London that controlled at least 120 women with threats of violence and intimidation.
The gang would also take hold of their passports to exert further control over them.
Ring leader Vishal Chaudhary, 35, used various aliases, including Rahul Singh and Aresh Khan, in order to disguise his true identity.
Until days before his arrest, he lived in a plush apartment block in Pan Peninsula Square, Canary Wharf and drove a Mercedes convertible, clearly enjoying a comfortable lifestyle.
Vishal and Kunal Chaudhary, along with three other accomplices, were arrested in early 2013.
Croydon Crown Court heard how flights were booked for at least 120 women, while others picked the women up from Stansted airport and delivered them to brothels in London.
They charged clients between £30 and £100 per hour.
Kunal Chaudhary denied any wrongdoing but was found guilty after a trial.
He was convicted of conspiracy to traffic persons into the UK for sexual exploitation, conspiracy to control prostitution and concealing criminal property.
He was jailed for a total of five years.
Vishal Chaudhary, from London, was jailed for a total of 12 years.
They and other members of the gang received a total of 36 years,
Judge Gower, sentencing, told the men: “These sentences reflect the misery, degradation and humiliation suffered by the victims.”
A Deloitte spokesperson said: “Kunal Chaudhary is a former employee of the firm.
"The police have made it clear that these terrible offences were not in any way connected with his employment at Deloitte.
"As soon as the charges were confirmed he was suspended without pay and following his conviction he was summarily dismissed without notice.”
