Do you ungrateful people not realise that you have been enriched and enlightened by this experience of other cultures?

Vile paedophile from Folkestone has been jailed for 24 years

THE GLOSSARY - Page 18 Gird

A judge has handed out a 30 year sentence to a Folkestone pensioner branded as a “wicked” paedophile who filmed his “grotesque” attacks.

Vile Leslie Girdlestone, a 71-year-old computer expert, had admitted 22 sex offences against five child victims.

A judge at Canterbury Crown Court heard how he used his expertise in computers to hide thousands of images he had also downloaded from the Internet’s “Dark” Web.

Now Girdlestone, of Cheriton Road, has been told he will be 87 years old before he can even apply for bail.

Judge Simon James jailed him for 24 years and then added an extra six years on licence if the dangerous sex offender is ever released.

Under sentencing rules, Girdlestone has to serve two-thirds of the main sentence before being eligible for release.

But he will  only be released if the Parole Board consider he no longer poses a threat to children.

Police, who raided his home, discovered more than 500 hours of recordings of his sick acts on young children.

Judge James told him: “You seriously sexually abused and raped your victims, leaving them with serious and permanent effects.

“What makes your offending particularly grotesque was that you filmed many of these acts.”

Deborah Charles, prosecuting, told the court that he had also amassed a disturbing collection “ of the worse kind of child pornography” from the Internet , depicting degrading acts on very young children.

“It was, “ she added “the most serious of its type.”

The judge told him: “You have not shown any real insight or real remorse for your crimes, together with an abject lack of victim empathy and you are an individual; who poses a significant risk to children.”

After ordering Girdlestone to be taken downstairs to begin his sentence, the judge addressed the families of the victims, who sat in the public gallery.

He said: “It is impossible for me not to have been touched by the Victim Impact Statements from the victims and their parents and their sense of anger and concern.

“I fear there is nothing I can say to alleviate those perfectly understandable emotions.”

The judge added that they should know that “the only person in court who is guilty of these wicked crimes is the man I just sent to prison.”

The families also heard the judge tell them that their “love and fortitude” for the victims “shines out” and he hoped they could now concentrate on the future.

Mother’s fury as Hackney paedophile avoids jail

THE GLOSSARY - Page 18 900

The mother of a girl who was just 11 when a sex pest sent her indecent images has expressed her disgust he was not jailed.

Charlie Stefano, 22, of Gadsden House, Digby Road, Lower Clapton, insisted on his innocence until the moment he was about to take the dock in the Old Bailey last Wednesday – when he changed his plea to guilty of making indecent photos.

He was in possession of 11 photos of the young girl – who cannot be identified for legal reasons – and had sent her pictures of himself.

The judge told the court Stefano could avoid jail – despite holding out his “not guilty” plea until the last minute – because the probation officer gave him a good reference and believed he had learned a lesson and was remorseful.

The girl’s mother said: “I’m so angry at the fact that even after admitting it that he evaded prison.

“He’s got away with so much.

“It’s been two years of hell, not knowing whether my child was going to have to stand up in the dock.

“He asked her to go to the bathroom and take different pictures of herself and take her clothes off.

“They found he had been sending him pictures of his private parts as well and there were conversations of him asking her for pictures. He’s ruined our lives.”

Her daughter has been through psychotherapy and counselling, and has been unable to sleep.

“It’s been traumatising for her. It has ruined her life. She’s not the girl she used to be. She’s private. More inward. She doesn’t go out on her own. She’s a changed person.

“She got into a lot of trouble at school where she had outbursts. She’s a very frustrated and angry little girl now.

“It makes me feel like I’ve failed as a mum because at the end of the day we are there to protect our children.”

Stefano has been put on the sex offenders’ register, been given 160 hours’ community service, and a five-year sexual harm prevention order, as well as being banned from being around children under 16 unsupervised.

Under-age sex messages man ordered not to contact children

A Perth man who was involved in sexual communication with an under-age teenage girl was ordered not to have any further contact with children.

Kieran Ferguson, 20, of Tweedsmuir Road, was also put on the sex offenders’ register for two years and ordered to carry out two years’ supervision as part of a community programme order.

Perth Sheriff Court heard that contact was made with a girl on Facebook.

Depute Fiscal Stuart Richardson said: “An adult carried out a check of the girl’s social media account by logging on to it and some photographs of the girl were found, showing naked parts of her body.

“The adult also found sexual communication with regard to the pair talking about meeting up for sex.

“The adult was concerned so police were contacted and Ferguson admitted the offence.

“He told officers he had forgotten about the girl’s age.”

Ferguson admitted that on October 5, 2014, at Eden Square, Tibbermore, he sent a sexual communication to a girl asking her to send pictures of her naked body to him.

He also pleaded guilty to a separate offence that on January 8 this year, at Scott Street, at its junction with Mill Street, Perth, he assaulted a man by punching him on the head.

Sentencing Ferguson, Sheriff Gillian Wade told him: “You have managed to carry out two very serious offences – both of which can attract custodial sentences.

“That is not an acceptable way to behave.”

She ordered Ferguson not to have any contact with children aged under-17 unless accompanied by a person aged over 21 and without notifying his social worker supervisor beforehand.

In addition, he was ordered to carry out 180 hours’ unpaid work for the assault

Cwmbran man with ‘largest collection of child sex images in Gwent’ avoids jail

A CWMBRAN man found to have in his possession the “largest collection” of child sex images in Gwent has been handed a suspended sentence.

Paul Davies, 64, of Cardigan Close, Croesyceiliog, was found with thousands of indecent images and videos on his computer after a search was carried out by Gwent Police on September 22.

Davies was remanded in custody following the search and pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photos of children and one count of possessing extreme pornography at Newport Magistrates’ Court on September 24.

The pre-sentence report at Cardiff Crown Court today revealed that Davies was found with 122 videos classed category A – the most serious – as well as 19 category B and 36 category C.

Davies also had 6,144 images deemed category A, 6,080 category B and 112, 486 category C videos as well as 140,000 assorted images and videos of extreme pornography.

Peter Dennison, prosecuting, said Davies had told officers that “there were a few naughties” on his hard-drive.

He added: “The amount of indecent images found was the largest number that have been recovered by officers in Gwent.”

Ieuan Bennett, defending, said that Davies was “beyond remorseful” for his actions which and that he was “devastated” when his family found out.

“Having a wife, grown children and grandchildren of his own, he understands what he’s done and is beyond remorseful,” said Mr Bennett.

“The sheer volume of the images show that it had become something of a habit.

“He was looking forward to a happy retirement but he knows that he has lost it all.”

Judge Jeremy Jenkins passed a sentence of 10 months imprisonment suspended for two years as well as imposing a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years which prevents Davies from deliberately communicating or living with female children under the age of 16

Judge Jenkins said that he had read testimonies from family members which showed that Davies’ actions were “totally uncharacteristic”

He said: “These images show young, real children being horribly sexually abused by evil individuals and people like you are downloading these images and are simply making their industry bigger.

“More and more children are being abused for sexual pleasure and you should reflect on that long and hard.”

Davies was ordered to pay prosecution costs of £340, a victim surcharge of £140 and is required to complete 25 days of rehabilitation.
