Heterosexual couple win right to civil partnership
A heterosexual couple have won a legal bid at the UK's highest court for the right to have a civil partnership instead of marriage.
Rebecca Steinfeld, 37, and Charles Keidan, 41, had been prevented from having the legal union because the Civil Partnership Act 2004 says only same-sex couples are eligible.
The couple, who have two young daughters, claim the government's position was "incompatible with equality law" and the Supreme Court in London has now ruled they are being discriminated against. .........

the why bother with a civil partnership. Nothing says I love you more than a tax efficient relationship.fatbob5 wrote:They dont like the concept of marriageFlap Zappa wrote:

A civil partnership is literally just marriage minus the Church.

a civil partnership is only for tax purposes, they want the tax breaks for marriage but dont love each other enough to commit.Summers wrote:They might not be religious.Flap Zappa wrote:

But your commitment implies that you can't really love one-another unless you're a member of a religion that practices marriage.Flap Zappa wrote:

A civil partnership is the exact same level of commitment anyway. Everything binding about marriage is through the law, not the church.

If they don't want a religious ceremony they don't need one, there's always the registrar's. Can a civil partnership be dissolved more easily than a religious (depending which religion it is) or civil marriage? Not much difference both have 2 years with consent of other partner/spouse, 5 years with no consent, unreasonable behaviour and desertion, marriage though also has adultery.

a marriage has nothing to do with a religious ceremony. It is a legal document and commitment. Registry offices are not religious.Summers wrote:But your commitment implies that you can't really love one-another unless you're a member of a religion that practices marriage.Flap Zappa wrote:
