Regular heatwaves 'will kill thousands'

I had a 20 min walk from the bus stop to my house when I first started work and still lived at home. One day in the summer the heavens opened while I was on the bus with some really crazy thunder and lightening, I think I made it home in record time and was just going through the gate when there was an almighty cap of thunder with lightening that I swear I felt the heat of on the back of my neck as I was bending over the gate to open it, I definately got in the front door in record time and although I had an umbrella I was soaked to the skin. Quite often the electricity would go off at such times we just got on with it.
